Yay, everybody hates each other!

This thread has lost its usefulness long ago (if it ever had any to begin with)

I don't hate you Laramere, want a hug?
I don't hate anyone, especially not anyone on this forum, not even Jackard. I have a low opinion of him, but I don't devote energy to thinking about him when he's not in my face.

Yeah I don't reckon there was ever a lot of "usefulness" in this thread, but that's not really a priority for me... Thought and conversation is an end in itself to me, I enjoy the exchange of ideas

There's moderating to keep people "civil", and there's moderating to keep the board from disintegrating. Spam and goatse make the forum unusable. It should be moderated. "Civility" is childish, inappropriate, highly subjective and philosophically unsound and should not be. If someone gives you sass and you don't like it, ignore him (in either sense). Don't set us on that slippery slope.

By the way, this forum is way better than a lot of modded forums, but it is also much better than "lawless" forums, I think. *coughcoughchanscough*

Think about it... soup...

Mmm... Soup.

The only way I can agree with that statement is if you narrowly define Civility as a set of rules tightly enforced with minimal/no room for interpretation/human reasoning.

I don't believe that's the only way of moderating and it's not something I recommend.

How about I present an alternative definition of "Civility" as, "Be nice to people"? I agree that it's highly subjective, but I don't feel that it's childish, innapropriate, nor philosophically unsound... Nor do I feel it's something that cannot be moderated.

Pretty much, but not exactly. Yeah, you could mod so that people aren't mean to each other but the whole thing still isn't a drag as a side effect But I've yet to see it done.
