Sure, it looks cool, but it's like drawing a painting on the floor.

It's a hobby of some sort? They enjoy making their desktops look nice?
It's kind of like making your room look nice, I guess. I think mostly what people are trying to do is make it look nice and functional, so they can monitor their system. With rainmeter, or something similar.

Actually it's more like drawing a painting on their desk. Their desk that they work at for 5+ hours a day.

I like looking at the wallpapers I collect, I also like some efficiency. Having nice things like drawers/docks is slightly easier to click through things I often use, and also keep track of stuff without cluttering through menus that take 4-5 clicks to get to, or having a desktop full of items.

The rest of it is just ricing though :D

The desk that is covered with papers or whatever they work with.
The point is I rarely see the desktop, because it's hidden behind all the programs I use.

Though you do have to have an organization scheme to do this. One of my college instructors saved nearly everything to the desktop. It was so cluttered he'd spend 5 minutes looking for something if he didn't use it every day. You can do a hdd search for it in that amount of time.

I felt the old one was lacking. A lot.
I like the feel of this, too. I have firefox positioned so I can see winamp at the same time. Looks nice, really.
