I've sighted someone sneaking around in our camp, hiding behind large objects in the vacinity of the mine.
I think what happened to the B12 community is a travesty and will fight to ensure it doesn't happen to ours.

I always thought putting crucibles out on display was a crazy idea. grumble grumble grumble

That person may have been me. I was forced to go the long way around because of the map bug and I got stuck having a look at the Runestones in your mine area because:

a) I couldn't see at all because the map bug happened to me while I was in there.
and
b) I was stuck in combat with several foxes and logging out didn't get me out of there.

After a while I managed to move to a spot where the map became viewable again but that is it.
Sorry if I gave you a fright. :3=

That's ok, our steel has been made very safe now so I'm no longer in fear of strangers.

Try to go near the crucibles however and I'll have your head on a pike

Heh, interesting to see that Shockedfrog apparently has succeeded in his alpha-testing goal. Perhaps that's really needed and we shouldn't overreact, but ranting about some idiot who just stopped all your steel crucibles is perfectly natural and quite relieving.

As long as he doesn't exploit bugs... Yeah. Perfectly legal and possible. And hey, this thread has brought up some new ideas how to prevent that stuff.

I would like to politely ask Frog to not attack Bay12 village for, say, one RL day. If he does, (as an action of good will) he's willing to compromise, and maybe we could manage a permanent truce.

This thread made me laugh my cojones off. I understand the frustration that some of you are feeling over shockedfrog's shenanigans -- believe me -- but when I was last down by the B12 site to check things out, I couldn't help but notice that no effort what so ever had been made to protect the steel crucibles. It actually struk me at the time that: "Wow. It'd be really easy to just..." Loke's function in norse mythology is to prevent the Aesir from growing complacent, by constantly getting them into trouble. In one sense, he is their greatest asset.

It could be argued that we need to implement better ways of protecting precious assets: Fences, locks, whatnot. That is probably true, and things will improve on that front as we move forward. But, that aside: None of the protective measures that could, within the present state of game development, have been taken, were. No claim poles, no cabin, no hiding, no guard, no nothing. The crucibles were placed in full view, plain sight, all eggs in one basket, with nothing there to prevent a "griefer" from messing with them. Far from me would it be to criticize my beloved B12 community, but couldn't that have been done better in the first place? Not to mention any names, but I know several communities that have better solutions for their crucibles than what I saw down Bottleneck way.

This is alpha. I need every possible exploit/griefing method/fucktardiness tested. I do not want to arrive at a finished game only to then realize that one or other game mechanic is completely broken, exploitable or in dire need of revision. I'm not going to commend shockedfrog for what he did -- shockedfrog is an asshole -- but neither am I going to hold it against him. You do not hold it against the scorpion that it stings, for it is in it's nature. As shockedfrog himself stated somewhere: If we wanted the crucibles to be impossible to mess with, we would've made them that way.

And if you guys were to show him a little bit of that B12 frontier justice, and throw his rotting carcass to the landcarp... well... you have my blessing. :D

I believe that most of you will see the points I'm trying to make here. If you cannot handle this type of pain then there is always World of Warcraft. Alpha H&H is not always going to be a smooth ride, and there is very little we can do about that except keep developing. The game will always be what it is. Incidents like this will, whether you like them or not, help us make a better game.

Apple trees will be replantable. Locksmithing will be in the game in one form or another.

A big thank you to everyone who plays. Seeing people in the world that I've dreamt of creating for years is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I hope my input doesn't seem cold, that is not my intention. Keep the crucibles burning.

Stay strong.

The issue is that there is no reasonable way to protect the crucibles until shared claims or kin identification are implemented. There's simply no way to tell if that person by the crucibles is one of us refueling them or shockedfrog disrupting them. So guards would be of no use. Claims could work, but that would require the person that holds them to log on every twelve hours, which is not really easy for people that have other things to do in their life. Haven and Hearth is a fine game, but I won't let it get in the way of my social life, so I can't ask it from anyone else.

Still we were somewhat stupid. Did we think that nobody would oppose us? Well.

On that matter, easy fix: Allowing kin to enter claims.

...and in the end, they chained Loki to a rock beneath the earth with his liver being constantly eaten, because he crossed the line.

Wrong. That's greek mythology.

It was the Titan that gave the humans fire that got chained underground to have his liver pecked out every day.
