The idea isn't that we want him to rot in jail the idea is that it's more important for undeniably guilty people to still have a trial. It shows that we respect and honor our own system. It also sets an example to others that everyone deserves a fair trial. (Though it may be over within the hour and he probably would have still been given the death penalty.)

thats pretty much idealistic. most of the western system does not give trials to certain people, guantanamo prison is enough to show that the US will follow human rights procedures and bullshit us with the values of western societies unless it no longer serves a purpose for them as seemed to be the case since 9/11 and probably even before then.

The Guantanamo prison has been criticized pretty heavily by other western governments though. It's not really the part of the "western system" , just another sign of the USA turning into the world's largest banana republic.

it may have been criticised openly by other gvts, that does not mean however, that even those other governments, like the UK didnt do their own secretive missions detaining and inprisoning people without trial.

You know supporters of conspiracy theories always think they had it all figured out while everyone else is blind, when in reality it is them choosing the easy way out. Conspiracy theories provide a simplified view on reality, an easy black and white sheme (that might be also appealing because it has this little shock effect in it). Above that it also resembles religion a lot since it has a 100% unscientific discussion base. The very foundation of science is it to be disprovable. Conspiracy theorists however will tell you when you disagree with them: "See! They got you wrapped in their cocoon of lies too. It is all part of their plan that you think like you do!"

That is like discussing with religious people wether god exists or not. It is futile. So can we keep this non-scientific nonsense out of a perfectly good thread?
