I guess so, though now it is from an educated standpoint as opposed to one of ignorance. I just wanted to clean it up a bit. I feel I was a lot more fair this time around, aswell.

And also I posted it again because other than 'Yeah that needs to be fixed' or 'Nah it's good' I feel it hasn't really been addressed. I'm not saying fix the game right now with a forum post, but I'd like to have an actual conversation at least. It's no bueno if all we do is pick a side and end it there.

And a lot of this, i'll admit, was to get some wisdom from jorb and loftar. Which I can't believe actually happened. Fucking awesome.

craigh1993 wrote:Why not make it so you can only have one character at a time to solve the alt problem? Also fixes people complaining 'Oh the game's pointless it's just an alt for an alt' because then with your one character you'll be scared shitless to risk too much bringing back the atmosphere..
Also brings people together for their unique skills to make villages e.g. miners, and farmers, instead of a village with a population of 1 guy and his 10 alts.

I personally would really like that. It would limit the player, but only in ways that are good for him/her. Or at least in a way that is conducive to the desired atmosphere of h&h. Only real problem I see with it is that it would bring trade to an absolute halt. Alt teleporting is the only fast and effecient way to trade right now. There would have to be a new system put in place for trading. Personally I'd like to see roads actually play a role in the game. It would be nice if you could make roads (considerably faster than paving it and laying stone, too.) to other villages, and wagons/carts on those roads traveled waaaay fast with a low stamina cost (for cart.) If you also made bridges (That boats can go under, obviously.) then this is a completely possible system. It would also open up new avenues of gameplay, i think. brick would be more valuable than stone, and you could have dirt roads as well, each different level of road quality (Not like item q, i mean brick - stone - dirt.) determining the speed at which you move. This would also start to physically link the haven community.

And on the note of trading, i honestly think that gates should just run off of permissions. Everyone uses a key alt, anyways. It's not like you're going to steal the key. So why make the player go through the hassle of a key alt in the first place? This would allow for things like layered cities and shit like that. No more stuped a-e-h/tele out with crossroads stuff. No more having to log into the key alt just to move some logs in. It's outdated, i say. That or remove alts so we have to carry our damn keys with us, cause right now it's just a hassle than adds nothing to the game.

If anyone can propose a realistic way to limit the number of characters a person can have, please, let it be known. But remember, anything relating to IP addresses won't work.

Also, in regards to the post above this one, bridges are an impossibility with the current game engine. Implementing bridges would require a massive rewrite of core game code, according to Loftar.

The complete removal of teleportation is an idea that has been tossed around very often. I wouldn't be surprised if it was eventually implemented.

I'm going to stop posting in this thread now. MagicMan is correct, this is a thread about Salem and curiosities, not Haven.

I think that your new statement is a much better assessment of the current problems with the curio system. My guess is that many people's problems with the curio system are caused by the delayed rewards it gives. When you first shift to the new system, you are trained to view the lp as the reward, so doing regular activities now feels pointless. As you play in the curio system, your brain has to start learning that the curio is the reward, not the lp (you will get most of your lp when you log in for the day).

One great aspect of the curio system is that it takes away the incentive to do weird, random activities that give lp: like cutting down forests or killing every animal you see.

Regarding having one character per account, and one account per player:

If "they" is referring to the players, EVE and Perpetuum pull it off--$15 and $10 US respectively.

Note: people still have multiple characters over several accounts. Heck, I ran three accounts in EVE and usually had at least two logged in at once.

Fact is that companies with small games usually make more money on the f2p/micro models than on a sub based one, so for you guys still hoping there's some way to limit alts... well, there'll be some ways to limit the number of accounts, and they might do that, but it just hurts those trying to play within some artificial boundary.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

What about removing Hearth secrets for characters on the same account? So you can't teleport an alt to you from the start, but instead have to level them a little just to get them half way across the world making it harder and more annoying for people to use alts?
Yesterday I murdered a rock, beat up a stone. Hospitalized a brick, I'm so mean I make medicine sick.

Very few people use multiple characters on the same account. How would this stop people from making multiple accounts?

I don't quite understand what you're saying. You want only one char to have a hearth secret?
That wouldn't work, also most of the players make/have other accounts.
But i like the way you're thinking :D
Hope you have a great day
