It's hard to translate.
"The farther into the woods, the thicker the partisans"
In this context means, that this place is very very far from somewhere.
Original expression is related to WW2 and describes danger of being deep in woods for occupants. Historical remark: there was very hard resistance on occupied by nazis territories in Belarus, Ukraine, where whole regions was under partisan's control and even dedicated SS forces was unable to fight effective against them. Most of these territories was located in the forests.
