Every time I've fought a deer in the last 2 days they do this weird twitchy thing and don't attack back. Picture doesn't really show it, BUT I TRIED.

It's known to happen when a cave will spawn as a single tile or sometimes the entrance will be detached from the rest of the cave. It's a bug in world gen but they make cool landmarks and places to find -- even if they can be a bit frustrating at times.
