It's a pretty good bet that boats'll be pretty much impossible for one normal person to make. Not necessarily bad, just disappointing for some.

Though I suppose that a town may be able to sell them for a profit to individuals.

Of course, the Pumpkins and Delamores of the world won't have a problem making Jorb-class carriers. Which will give them 10 quintillion LP.
Surprise.

Which would make sense since the smaller boat would be made for a single person, while the larger ship would be for a village of people or so.

Are you really that stupid? The devs spend so much time making it clear they make the game for the game not for the players and you still think you deserve your fursuit, lembas or other compensation of some kind.
I'm sorry that you enjoyed the game and spent so long enjoying it, here let me make up for the time you lost enjoying it.

Hmm, and how are you so sure that all the boats will require Iron, or metal at all.

I didn't say all boats, I said a boat. We've got a small little village on a river with at least half a dozen people, and we'd really enjoy getting around in the larger boat, but we've little metal to speak of because there's no mines and I'm sure the larger boat will require at least a few bars. It's part of a larger gripe for me, because I've got full industry without a mine or forge, and no martial skills so I can't hunt to pass time. I build road, run plows, and repair walls for my friends when they need it. Otherwise I grind LP looms out in the woods, dreaming of the sea.

it would be cool if big boats required piers to dock or be built

requiring docks would not make a lot of sense. having them as an option would be alright. could confine larger ships to deep water and be able to build piers out into it. piers should be destructible.

you should be able to move between ships, and also dive into the water

With the addition of boats there should be some way to make canals for them :<
