it's more likely that you win the Irish Lottery and an asteroid lands on you that day.

I'm trying to think of solutions but like everyone's stated there's always going to be something, seems like the hardest game in the world to balance :/
The only way I can think of stopping people from making multiple accounts is to do with their IP. But with most things if someone wants it bad enough they'll find a way of getting it.
Yesterday I murdered a rock, beat up a stone. Hospitalized a brick, I'm so mean I make medicine sick.

It's not that they can find a way around such restrictions, it's that IP addresses change frequently, even with no effort on the part of the user. Every time you unplug your modem, every time your connection drops, and every time your ISP decides that it's time to reallocate some numbers, your IP changes.

I would absolutely love it if my IP address at home stayed the same no matter what. However, I'm not going to pay the additional $20/mo to get a fucking static IP.

Restrictions are a hasty clumsy way of solving problems which gives birth to further problems down the road.
The right way to fixing things is to change the game mechanics : improving upon them in this case.

I'm a noob here, the curios system is all I know and I haven't yet run into the need for an alt... but there's no use in thinking about restricting IPs, chars and stuff : restrictions do not work except as a business model (making people pay to get more characters per account, for example).
So it's either scrap the current system and revert back to the old one (which would be the crazily poor choice, as jorb's post in this thread explained in details) or improve the current one.
And this means improving the game mechanics so that they don't produce the flaws you guys and jorb mentioned.
According to what he said, the Salem system scores on these points : it doesnt encourage alts making nor offline leveling.

So wait and see...
Sorry for you vets who hate the curios system but for now development is on Salem and you'll have to wait it out on H&H : another thread has a jorb post about H&H's code needing a major overhaul effecting the way the game handles items and thus any quick fix will have to wait because it would be scrapped anyway when the big code overhaul hits.

What if once you find or craft a curio it becomes soulbound (cannot trade), meaning you must forage to get maximum LP. To avoid people KO'ing their forage alts to get curios it could be like 50% chance a curio will crumble on looting.

dumbest. mechanic. ever.

If I recall my MMO history correctly here, it was introduced to keep people from looting certain items after PvP battles and certain "crafted" items that were supposed to be class specific in a general type of MMO that is classified as "theme park." In open trade and crafting MMOs that fit the classification as "sandbox", the tag not only has no purpose, but becomes counter-intuitive to the other mechanics of the game.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

it is the best mechanic ever
it essentially meant you had to put in the time to get the reward
now obviously it is redundant as wow has gone to shit, but back in the day u see someone with hand of rag and he was a god

i actually have 0 problem with current curio system, lol
just the fucking lag
