That's all very true and I'm looking forward to it, but I thought most peoples problems with it (I'll admit it bugs me a bit too) is that new comers to the game will be discouraged that they can't learn it with their friends. It's like you have five friends who have nothing better to do so you get them to start playing but have to say "oh I forgot to mention, but you're going to have to spend your first 2 or 3 sessions doing nothing but travel in a certain direction while knowing nothing about the game if you want to meet up and do things together."
Not to mention if there is no long distance Kin/party/find system and the best way really is to pick an edge/corner the edges of the world are going to fill up quickly with just about everyone, at the very least everyone interested in hanging out killing newbs.

The no spawning off of H.F's might be great, but there should at least be a quick or convenient way to find your friends in the game. If it's just something like a long distance kin and party, it just saves you having to walk to the edge of the world before having to go off together to find a place for your village. It leaves people perfectly able to play the single/make new friends by necessity experience that appears to be the goal, but for those going to circumvent that experience who want to play with their rl friends or people they're confident playing with from previous instances, newbs included, it saves the first stage of tedious walking, at the very least you have an ingame chat with the people you're working on getting to.

There will be a world map pieced together by players after two weeks (or something), so this shouldn't be so much of an issue. Given that this is inevitable they will probably not remove the party arrows either.

But it's true that walking around for hours to team up is discouraging for people who really want to play together. And it also seems likely that some people will not try the game because they can not bring some friends along easily.

However, I doubt that anyone can really estimate how much of an impact the measure will have at the moment. For me personally it's not a bad thing. I'm actually looking forward to this "shuffling of cards".

do you realize that you two are both missing the point of this feature...? (or, non-feature of no-hearth secret spawn)

the most reasonable complaints ive been hearing are from those non-english speakers who need friends to play with - who could communicate in english and help them communication-wise.

im personally split, like as teck said, part of me do want to see how this could influence the player interactions. if they put what many of you are suggesting, it would only ruin the point of this feature altogether. (and another part of me says that it would be just exploited and wouldn't work as intended anyways.)

A very important point while i think people that want to communicate without borders in their heads will find a way to do so

As far as I understand the measure is meant to keep old factions from forming up again, to break the continuity of politics and to enable a fresher start with less powermongering and griefing. Of course it's also a way to deal with the alt issue (maybe it even evolved as a side-product of solving the alt issue).

But I support the notion that meeting up with close friends from RL or family is a problem. I see this as a legitimate reason for complaints.

I guess I must admit that I failed to resolve this conflict in my reasoning because I ended up saying that exceptions are still possible, so people who really want to meet up still have a chance to. But this undermines the concept as a whole. And RL friends / family are probably less eager to go through the pain of meeting up than (key) members from the existing factions.

So maybe instead of saying:

I should have said that it is a problem instead. Because you can only have "nobody can meet up" or "everyone can meet up", nothing in between. Every exception benefits the unintended group first and foremost. And the world map will create such an exception (which was the idea that made me type my previous post).

To be honest if there's a minimap ingame there will be map making - and be it personal ones (which still can be shared).

When i was totally fresh late W3 i made my own map by pasting and stitching screenshot minimaps manually
- at that time i didn't know bettter. At last stage my map was twice the size of my monitor - shout out to Ravenholm area and to Pyr area :)

Knowledge is made for sharing

This cannot be the purpose, because in truth the measure only harms small groups and non-english speakers.

This might even give more incentive to form those large groups, with satellite camps springing up around them.

When W7 first started i had my day old character and was invited to brodgar, i didn't want to have to start over again, so i joined yolan's party and boated like 4 supergrids to join the early days of brodgar. Which also, begs the question , how would that work? if there are no spawning grounds? how will populate noob settlements such as brodgar ? or recruit new players ?

Also i thought , if you want to monetise the game, the way to do it would be buying back dead characters, similar how to rebirthing of dead characters works now, which you replace, maybe you loses 20%-50% in stats , but you get him back for 5$ this both punishes the foolish, but offers respite for the unlucky and a source of revenue for you devs. Also, players wouldn't have to do this,it would be completly optional, but it would mean they start from scratch if they dont.
