Nothing terribly exciting, but loftar is working on mapgen.

(17:12:39) <loftar> Breddy gud. Working on mapgen currently.
(17:14:13) <the_portals> settle a bet: are the generated penises specifically coded to generate or just coincidence?
(17:14:51) <loftar> Does it need to be either? Isn't the more probable explanation a Freudian slip? ^^
(17:15:31) <the_portals> ;)
(17:16:17) <the_portals> trying to give jorb a hint?
(17:17:06) <loftar> Who knows what my subconscious yearns for. :)
(17:24:38) <Tonky> hi loftar
(17:25:00) <Tonky> how were your childhood days? were you a super-bored genius at school?
(17:25:51) <loftar> Hi Tonky :)
(17:26:27) <loftar> That might not be an *entirely* unfair description, at least. ^^
(17:27:15) <Rawrz> hey loftar , out of curiosity is there a way to see salem population data?
(17:27:43) <loftar> To be fair, though, I was only really good with science subjects, but I got by with that. :)
(17:28:05) <loftar> There is, Rawrz, but I don't know whether MM want to publicize it or not, so you'll have to ask them. :)
(17:34:08) <Tonky> your father taught you basic arithmetic before you go to school?!
(17:34:21) <loftar> I wouldn't think that's all too uncommon, no?
(17:34:43) <loftar> Surely there are lots of children who can do addition, subtraction, multiplication and whatnot when they start school?
(17:35:18) <loftar> Well, he was teaching me some trigonometry when I was in first grade. :)
(17:36:15) <loftar> I think I enjoy combinatorics better, though. :)

:P

loftar wrote:To expand on that, one thing Jorb and I often quip about with regards to many theme-park MMORPGs is how they can be said to really be single-player or, at best, non-massive-multiplayer games with a glorified chat lobby, where you can see other players and speak with them, but not really interact with them in meaningful ways; how it's like being a ghost in a world of other ghosts, being able to derp around perfectly able to ignore the presence of others as long as you want to, and how the lack of player-to-player collision is the most obvious visible sign of this syndrome.

In that way, while player-to-player interaction is certainly not the sum of all interaction, it is an important point of principle for us.

Also, precisely because player-to-player collisions are not the sum of all interaction, removing it is only a small band-aid on a much larger problem. The more basic problem is that newly spawned characters are powerful tools, and their bounding box is not the end of that power. This is also why I consider "remove collisions" to be a mere extension of a "remove interaction" mentality.

Are there still signposts? I thought the whole new system removed them in place of stockpiles and instant builds.

Not sure where you got "instant builds" from.
