Beehive Secret?

Postby Fenrispantom » Sun Aug 15, 2010 7:14 am

Beehives are something that as of yet have been figured out and some claim are just bugged. From reading though the forums and my though own testing out things on my own here is what i figured out so far. (NOTE: this is all guess work and spec and any other info debunking this or adding more is welcome i just want to figure out what effects beehives)

1. Growing crops not fully grown crops but growing crops effects the rate that beehives give wax and honey

AND

2. While the quality of the hives seem to hold effect over wax and honey the crop ql of those in its radius seem to also have a effect of honey and wax

So far that's what i found out if anyone can add to these finding or can show i mistaken its more then welcome info hope (if these are right) this helps anyone whosa bit lost with the whole beehive situation.

I can confirm the first thing I think. when I moved back into my old area, I built a couple of hives and watched my old ones expecting them to produce, all the while not planting any new crops. the update that added the cutthroat cuirass had me excited and I was frustrated that I could not get any wax. now that I think back on it though, my hives did not produce wax or honey until AFTER I started planting new crops.

Things i noticed

If you want more honey and beewax don't over saturate with hives. It is better to have 1 hive working on a lot of crops with no other hive nearby in the radius. Quality of beehive has some effect and the crop quality also seems to play a role.

Im also guessing that multiple crops within beehive plays some sort of role, but haven't been able to test it out yet .

Well guys, my findings:

Carrots are the best to be abundant near the beehvie. My beehive produces like 6 waxes a day - but only because of carrots around. But it is not only carrots. When I built only carrots beehive, no such occurence happened. The best results I got were Carrots a lot, few teas, hemps, tabacoos and wine around.
Carrots are the best, because beehive lookslike getting ticks eachtime the crop gets to stage which is harvestable. And carrots are harvestable in all stages, so eachtime it grows one stage, beehive gets honey tick. Wax tick lookslike still copies the 3rd honeytick timing, but when there were only carrots around, the wax did not appear, so also there is something different in variable crops around, as ciroth mentioned.

This is my experience. And also it proves Fenrispantoms first point, that only live crops (harvested and replanted) are making beehive produce honey and wax.

okay, now ive noticed a new thing. my hives that previously produced really crappy honey are now rising in quality, which is making me wonder what is doing it. the only thing ive been doing different is constantly replanting the crops and harvesting the honey. Ive noticed that the crops I touch the least (my grapes) have crappy honey and the crops i touch the most (hops, peas, and onions) are producing good honey. my theory is this, if the crops are not harvested, the quality of the honey drops, but if you harvest on a regular basis, it will rise.

Darn, I can't believe it took you guys this long to figure it out :p
Under the previous system you could get q80 honey easily if you harvested all your crops the second they were done. But it's been made easier now to get high honey.

The answer to the riddle of honey: honey isn't strong; bees are stronger.
