Fellow Hearthlings,

In the short time I have walked among you I have witnessed firsthand the devastation wrought by our own greed. With our peoples left unchecked and spread to the furthest reaches, this world has become a derelict... a wasteland! Scarred with broken earth, roads that lead nowhere. Littered with runestones, clearcut forests, abandoned claims, the broken shells of forgotten villages! The shame of it is great indeed.

The devs lead us to a promised land - one whole, unspoiled. Would you have it suffer the same fate?

It must not happen! In unity lies strength - if we would become the caretakers of our new home, Hearthlings must set aside their differences and band together. Instead of many villages, one city built round the Great Ring to welcome newcomers to the land!

I wish that would be possible. But really, if everyone was in one place, the massive legions of evil goons and griefer alts would have a much easier time to just wipe out everything. Unless they added some kind of scaling, that the higher the number of villagers in a village, the harder it is for criminals to do criminal activities in some way (maybe NPC guards depending on how many members are in a village?). As I doubt that that will happen, I think this will all just fail. Small closeknit communities were everyone trusts each other is far better than one huge conglomeration of everything, were thieves and griefers could just meld in.

Unfortunately one of the best forms of security in this game is obscurity.


Edit: On the other hand, I can't say that I don't enjoy having a game world that's massive enough to allow people to live on their own and rarely ever encounter other players, and at the same time allow players who wish to function in a social group the opportunity to do so as well.


Despite all its faults I love this game.
