I've already made peace with my inevitable death, so there shouldn't be any rage.

The best thing you can do is once you have found a spot that has clay (not all have a steady supply of clay) you then work back away from the river/lake and make your home just far enough away to be hidden. Traveling should not be a problem and if you raise you Perception/Exploration skills (which should be on top of your list of things to do) then you can use these trips to gather foragables like taproot (which is great as string) and the all important Wild Windsown Weed (WWW)
I will keep your advice in mind. Although I would love to just live by the river, if making my home just far enough away to not be seen will save my life I can live with the walking.
Oh, and a quick question: The weeds give a chance to get ANY type of seed, right?
