Sodom's Prices (minor rant)

Postby sir0die » Thu Oct 28, 2010 8:54 pm

When you are 3-4 SGs away from Sodom, and working up a trade with someone even FURTHER away from Sodom, it gets VERY annoying for them to say something like "Well thats what Sodom is offering for (insert item here)".

All i have to say is, "You're not dealing with Sodom, you are dealing with me and I'd like x amount of (whatever) for (inserted item)". If you want Sodom's Price, keep traveling 4 more hours to get to Sodom.

If anyone out there is in retail sales, it's just like hearing , "I can get it from the internet cheaper". Then get back in your car, drive 5 minutes home and get it from the freaking internet. of course thats what you are thinking but being a professional, you don't say it.

My point is, Sodom's prices are just that, SODOM'S price. they are not written in stone as the universal H&H prices.

If someone wanted to buy something off you and it took you along to to get it/make it. And they offered you alot less then you knew you could get for it (eg price lists from major trading cities) then you probably wouldn't sell it.

The point is the prices are pretty much universal now... they are based on how easy things are to get and how long they take to get...

anyway... Why dont you just tell him no? If it takes 4 hours to get to Sodom then he will be forced to trade with you anyway whatever prices you set.

Sir I agree. prices should vary from place to place. they should also vary by the quality of the product and how far you have to go. the way people can compete.

compete?

if the next person selling what i am selling is 30 days walking away i can charge you your firstborn for the world shitties radio on earth.

compete comes into place when distance is not a factor, but quality is.

I agree with your rant. Don't sell it to them and tell them to walk to sodom. Set your price at what you want. If the person ever has the nerve to come back to you later offer the same thing at a slightly HIGHER price. Thats the effect of being rude to your supplier.

"Oh, a chest of chantrelles too expensive for the Q100 dragon helm you want from me? next time it will be 1 chest and 1 extra chantrelle"

The nerve of some people who can't recognise a good deal.

EDIT: having said that, I would pay a dozen chests of chantrelles for a dragon helm at that quality :D

Anyone taking the prices I put on the thread as a universal price is a little loose in the head. Some of the prices are just terrible and I haven't gotten around to changing it.

I also don't plan on getting around to doing it again at all, if anyone wants to try such a thing best to hope for sabi to make a new thread or look to AD's prices. I'd say stickman's as well but he doesn't seem to buy as much of a variety of items so sometimes it's hard to sell what the little things cost.

ROFL. You're saying this like it's a bad thing. I was recently shopping for a guitar capo. The only place I found that was selling them was a stall in a market, and the cheapest one was an absolutely awful capo that he wanted £6 for. I said that it's too expensive, you can keep it. Went home, went on eBay, got a much better one for £2 free delivery. If he's not willing to barter and lower his price (he'd still be profiting) then it's his loss of my custom.

Anyway, more on-topic. Cry all you want but you can use the prices of a large trading centre like Sodom as a base for item prices in the whole world, as the traders of Sodom have been exposed to information of the H&H markets more than e.g. a hermit. Buyers should know that you can charge more as you're far away, but that's obvious, and if they're not willing to pay more for the convenience of an immediate trade then that's their decision, no point whining about it.
