new server code?

have they updated the server code recently? it seems the server is able to recover from a minute long "freeze". its happened twice where the server status page has said the server had crashed, but after 2 minutes of the game being frozen, it is able to recover.

like the one that just happened? i assume it's more a problem of connectivity than an actual crash, because i just froze, checked the homepage, it said the server appears to have crashed, but then it recovered.

I'm guessing it saves some sort of debugging information and then automatically restarts.

no or else you would need to log back in everytime it happens.

IIRC the game server and homepage run on the same computer, so there shouldn't be any connectivity problems between them. It seems there's some bug that makes the server freeze up and not respond to requests from either game clients or the home page server status script.

I'd guess it was just a case of the system being I/O-starved and the server program therefore hanging for a minute or more waiting in the disk queue. It sucks when it happens; optimally, the game data should be on a dedicated disk to prevent it from happening.

In case Swapspace is needed it should be on a dedicated disk.
Preferably all disks should be SSD.
Better is to add more RAM to avoind swapping at all though.

*pressingthumbs* New server will be fun. Good luck on the migration, i hope it will go smoothly.

This would require a lot more donations.
