Bottleneck is one of H&H's oldest and biggest towns. It was founded by people from the Bay12 forums (Dwarf Fortress), but it's not Bay12 exclusive. There was no public recruitment thread while we were working on security, but now we're open for large immigrant waves, so read on if you're interested. We're accepting both new players and veterans, as long as they're not criminals. To join, post here or contact Hamel or me in-game or by PM.
Bottleneck is almost straight south from the starting point (see the map). It has all the natural resources available nearby, namely a lake, clay pits and a forest. It is also close to the last remnants of Mordor, which means that hunting is better than in most other towns. In addition to these natural resources, we have large public fields, several mines, public production facilities like smelters and ovens, public carts and a well-developed road network.
Economy of Bottleneck is fully capitalistic. Everything you produce is yours to keep or trade for other goods you need. Generally, it's possible to find almost every trade good in Bottleneck, so you can specialize in what you like doing the most and just buy everything else you may need. That being said, a lot of people donate their excess production to the village stockpile, which is mainly used to help new immigrants get settled as quickly as possible. You are encouraged to donate to the stockpile when you get your business running, but it is not required.
Security-wise, we have adopted a distributed risk model. This means that there is no central vault or anything like that. Instead, private homes are protected by individual walls. You are responsible for building and maintaining your own wall if you want to have one, but more often than not other residents will offer some help when you're constructing your wall. You are encouraged to fully claim your wall and leave kin-access disabled.
There aren't many rules in Bottleneck, but those that exist need to be strictly adhered to. They are as follow (this list is subject to change):
- Always replant every crop you harvest.
- Plant at least as many trees as you cut down.
- Don't obstruct roads and other public areas.
- Don't engage in criminal behaviour. This will result in banishment from the village and confiscation of all property.
- Be active. If you are inactive for a long period of time (a week at least) without any explanation, your property will be given to an immigrant.
In addition to these hard rules, it is also expected from Bottleneck residents to act in a neighbourly manner. Consistently causing discord is grounds for kicking you out of the town. Also, you are expected to devote a small portion of your time or wealth to public works, such as road building, infrastructure maintenance or village claim expansion. This is all done on a voluntary basis and there are no quotas to meet, but if you never contribute anything to the public good, your citizenship may be reconsidered.
