WTF just happened?

What happened:

Last night, I was boating down the river.
I had reason to believe the area I was in was populated, so to keep my boat from being stolen, I logged out in the middle of the river.
Normally, this would be no problem, and I'd be logged back into the boat when I got back.
Obviously, I wasn't.
Thing is, I'm not even where I was last night. I'm a little bit up the river from where I was, next to a boat I had passed earlier.
Anyone else have this happen before?

Well-known problem. If you log out on a boat - you character disappears, but boat does't. So, if anyone will take that empty boat of yours, you'll end up stucked in the middle of the river. That's why you should NEVER log out in a boat. I am not sure about Swimming skill. Maybe, if you have swimming, you'll be able to move to the shore, but that needs clarification. I have't bought that skill, not untill i get at least 100 CON. I'v heared stories about how easy it is to drown.

if i'm not wrong, you can simply walk on the ground and log off. When you relog you'll be safe. Actually you can walk on water because the server don't know that yu've trepassed the river...i hope that you can reach the land safely.

But I've logged out in a boat plenty of times before without a problem. Guess someone must've moved it overnight, then. According to my friend, they also took a chest out of it.

Though, I can verify that Swimming needs to be on to move back to land. Otherwise it just has you walking on water with no way of moving to the shore. I had to hearth back to where I had started.

Last time i tried this i started swimming
after i left my tile, wouldn't recommend
trying it.
