Is wine bugged?

Well, the topic is pretty self-explanatory; I've been wondering this since I got few barrels of the nectar in question again. Of course, I dug right those and suprise, 5 hhp damage. Oh well, no big deal, there's a decent chance of that happening. Then it happened again. Bugger, here goes another gallon. Damage. Huh? I tried again. More damage. And again. More damage.

I mean, I know it's supposed to do that at times, but I think I've taken damage from drinking about seven times in succession with no stat gains. (Yes, I am that stubborn). Is this bugged somehow, or is my luck really, astronomically bad?

I mean, alcohol is bad for you and all, but goddamn. I swear this barrel will be the end of me. Better stick to beer.

The random number generator giveth, and the random number generator taketh away. I've leveled my character's strength up relying solely on a healthy diet of... well... beer, quite simply.
