Trading (topics) Info. (Image v text)

Postby mvgulik » Sat Jan 01, 2011 10:15 pm

Just a general point.

The images that are used to show the current active prices for the different trading mergends are really nice. And really give of a professional feeling to the trading tread.

But ... also having some textual data that can be easily copied and past in whatever app(mainly spreadsheet)/tool makes sens to.
From a potential buyer/user point of view it makes of course sens that this is done in a general standard format across the different trading treads.

Thats all.

Feel free to use this topic to discus, or hack at the format, if you like.

For general purposes, I think it's easy enough to tell your friend to look at the topic to see a full list of prices/values. It would be inconvenient for a seller to have to setup two lists for the rare convenience of others.
A better way might be to save the images individually and have the quality/point value next to it in text. That way it could be edited easier and still be visually appealing. However, it would be annoying to collect and save each image individually the first time around and you can't make use of the right side of the page. The main advantage from having one image is the freedom with how you want the list to look, which can make it easier for buyers/sellers to find what they're looking for and whatnot. An additional text list would generally just be redundant.

It is nice to have a text version but I find they rarely 'both' get updated. :(

I was kinda assuming that the creation of the image involved some automation ... and that a text version in that case should not really be a big problem.

If its not automated, or not directly available (like in spreadsheet) ... and therefor the text version is not updated with the image update ... better not. As in, a incorrect alternative information source is worse than not having it at all.

Still think it would be nice feature.

just a random idea:
- If a spreadsheet is used for holding the current prices ... You could use one page, to pickup, prep, and combine you current new prices into a text version. (could spit out the core text of the first message.)

Seems your missing the point ... I'm not talking about 'maintaining' two separate lists. Just using one data set for multiple purposes/output. Preferable in a way thats as easy as possible.
+ also: A text version can be used by users to make it easier to compare prices ... no matter what the local market is using as trading currency. (as in automated processing of data.)

I'm personally not really thinking directly readable textual data here (thats what the image is for). More like a compressed data list.
But other ideas/suggestions are welcome.
