Perhaps your underestimating just how long you can starve your guy for before he dies?

It takes longer to fully starve if you have more HP. That said, I've never gotten near that point, and i sometimes run my hunger bar well into black. However, a recent thread had someone who died while AFK - probably to hunger, possibly to a PK'er.
