Official world 4 mapping thread

Postby algeralith » Sat Jan 22, 2011 6:56 am

Well, I see no real reason not to release my map + map uploader to the public.

Currently the uploader is design to work with gilbertus's client.

Source code for the uploader: http://www.privatepaste.com/49bc731812
Download for the uploader: http://www.algeralith.info/MapUploader.zip

The uploader is programmed in c# and uses the DotNetZip Library. It should work with mono, but I have not tested it.

Directions to use the uploader....
Put the uploader in your Client/Maps folder
Once it is in the folder where the client saves the directories full of maps, run the program

Map Location is: http://algeralith.info/HavenMap2/

I've switched over to Google maps using Mqrius's front end (Thanks for releasing your source =])
The New location can be found at:
http://algeralith.info/HavenMap2/

I'm going to point the Old URL to the new location in a few days. Everything should be processing again automatically by tomorrow.

Uploads and processing are now working fully.

Enjoy!

I'd like to see a similar map for world #4, so I started mapping the new world.

I created an uploader for this purpose that can be used to upload all new minimaps to the server, who will then connect them to the already mapped world.
The uploader is currently only compatible with Gilbertus' way of mapping, but I can add support for other methods if desired.
To upload, just copy the uploader to your map folder and run it. You can safely close the uploader while uploading - in that case, it will continue where it left off the next time you run it.
You can also specify a name if you wish - then your uploaded minimaps will add to your score like on Mqrius' map.

By default, the uploader will tell you which supergrid you are in or have been to (ex.), which is useful if you want to know where you are when you just created a new character.
You can turn this off in the configuration file.

Uploader - Windows (54 KB)
Uploader - Linux 32-bit (16 KB)
Uploader - Linux 64-bit (19 KB)

Here's the current state of affairs:
Full map - half size (6.1 MB)
Supergrid D1 (38% explored)
Supergrid E1 (61% explored)
Supergrid E2 (38% explored)

Google Map
Highscore List

The Google Map and the supergrid PNGs auto-update regularly.

Oh, by the way, if you still have lots of sessions of world #3 in your map folder, you might want to move these somewhere else first - after all, there's no real point in uploading them.

Happy mapping!

I see a beautiful flaccid dong-shaped grassland.

Is that two villages on opposite shores of a river?
That's going to be really interesting.

Map the new World!

I found Mqrius' map to be quite useful for orienting myself when I started (or it would have been, if I had managed to find my own location on the map  ).

Very nice, good job.

GREAT JOB =D

I found my old "village" (a shambles of a few houses. its becoming deserted soon apparently)
and I've also found where my new village is...ish. its not mapped out yet. plan to do that.

All the different maps should be merged, also, add a supergrid 'grid'
