It took me a while to figure out how/when to reliably catch Plaice without getting 90% Pike all the time. The information's out there, of course, but it's difficult to know which sources to trust, and how accurate they are.

I never thought the phases of the moon had a large effect on fishing, but I guess I was wrong. Just before the server crashed just now, it was midnight, and a full moon. I was fishing in lake shallows with a crappy rod and a woodfish, and catching purely Plaice. No Pike whatsoever. Happy days! :D

Yesterday though, I was fishing at night in the same location, but the moon was in its very early phase, and I was catching mostly Pike. I maybe found 1 or 2 Plaice after half an hour's fishing.

So, I just thought I'd share. I'm sure most people already know all this stuff, but for newer players or those who don't fish much, this should help in the early hunt for decent Perception food.

Why does the server have to go down the only chance I can get to somewhat reliably catch plaice? I've been waiting a week for the full moon. The night is almost over now and I'm swimming in Bream :(

Yep, full moon, lake shallow, rock lob lure and woodfish, both pike 100%.

River shallow, seems to be unable to be fished now, wth?

With the crash and such, I came away from the fishing trip with: 29 Plaice, 4 Pike (as the night waned), 5 Bream, 1 Roach, and 2 Brill.

Wish I had gotten there earlier though. I managed to fill both my coffers but I still had a lot of inventory space left. :c

Early night or mid-night matters too i guess. I got there late night, like few hrs before sun up.

I caught 3 Plaice mixed in with Bream when I first started and it was a just an hour or two past midnight, then I didn't catch anymore and officially gave up when I had two crates and an inventory completely full of bream. :( I've heard before that the best chance is to catch them at Midnight on a Full Moon which is... extremely limited and appears true.

You can catch plaice anytime at night with leeches. Although full moons are best, at night with leeches about 3/4 of the catch are plaice.

Bloated or regular?

If I recall correctly, leeches and possibly worms should be 100% catch rate for plaice as well in the moons gibbous phase.
