I see this everywhere. Unfinished wicker baskets litter shorelines everywhere, and are usually constructed in some sort of pattern.

An easy way to kill animals in the wild when you are new is to shoot at it from a boat. The only problem is when the animal attempts to flee you cant catch up to it. The unfinished signs are used to box the creature in so you can kill it easily without it being able to run away.
