How serious do you take this game?

So me and my friend have been playing this for a while, we have our own village and we're doing pretty good. I never realized how serious we are about it until we tried to make some other IRL friends to play. Now all they do is screw around, go to other villages and piss them off, make a mess, etc. It's even getting so bad we're about to have a full on civil war.

This made me realize not everyone takes this game as seriously as some people, and I was wondering just how many people are actually devoted to every aspect of this game.

Your issue doesn't really seem like you take the game "too seriously" but rather you are having fun right now and have created a routine you enjoy. Your idiot friends are going to ruin it and I don't think anyone would like that situation.

Well I wouldn't say I take the game too seriously. But I do care a lot about our village and the well being of it. My friend on the other hand is the one who takes everything very seriously, I swear he has severe OCD in this game. Not so much for me though, I take it seriously when people try to screw everything up. I didn't necessarily mean taking it serious as a bad thing.

Yes I understand what you meant, and of course it's a good thing. If a village is filled with a bunch of morons who never get anything done then it will fail instantly. The hard-asses that get shit done and take control are vital.

It's why I couldn't really work with people. Hermitage can be hard, but managing people who only want to get your village razed is harder.

Are you saying I don't have fun? I have loads of fun haha. This game is awesome, but it's meant to be played somewhat seriously. If you're doing what my friends did then you're pretty much playing the game wrong. Sure there having fun, but in my mind it's a stupid, immature, annoying type of fun.

There are certainly lots of ways to get fun out of this game. Building up something big, something no one else achieved gives you a special feeling though. It requires lots of dedication, time and people working together, but is oh so much more satisfying in the end than having your little log cabin every other hermit has as well.

Your friends now didn't only ruin the time and dedication you put into your project, which is bad enough. Above all they endangered a socical structure that has grown and improved over time. Nothing is worse than loosing your community in this game. Towns can be rebuilt although it might be a pain in the ass. Not alone though, only with a strong social enviroment surrounding you.

That is the only thing I really take serious about the game, the good people I have gotten to know and achieved special things together with over more than 1.5 years now. Worlds come and go. Chars die. It is always more fun to build up something new when you have someone to talk to.
