Megastructures

Postby EnigmaAlpha » Fri Feb 11, 2011 1:51 pm

The players of this game make many things. Settlements, villages, buckets and death. Mostly death. But, has anyone every bothered to plan and make a megastructure? Not exactly a structure, I mean, but a building, place, whatever that is designed (mostly) for aesthetics and grandeur. Like, a massive garden, or a particular shape of fortress other than square shaped.

Surely it would be a great sign of wealth, power and intellect in this world? To show that you not only have the time, but the resources, security and planning to make such a thing?

Come on, anyone made something beautiful?

Aw, I thought you were talking about building something like the Colosseum which would take an incredible amount of time and supplies.

I made a palisade on an island which has like 30 cornerposts. It's epic.

The natural cliffs and rivers will ruin a really large "garden". Probably why noone's done it yet.

True, looked around for a bit, best location I've found were only 2x6 minimaps 50/50 Grassland / Forest.

Well, offhand, I can only remember this.

Actually, I recall that Flame was attempting a Nazca line-ish thing to identify supergrids, though those were more modestly sized. I can't find the topic (I seem to recall it started in a tangentially related topic and I don't know if I would even know what I was looking for) Disregard that, here's the topic. I've also personally done pixel art of the dwarf, as have some others at various points and degrees of that actually working.

Aha! Here's a picture of one of said dwarves. Although I think Moogie took a few liberties.

Not sure if any of this counts as beautiful, but hey! It probably all took a while and is certainly largely pointless.
