Hey, as you can see.
I'm new and..i found out about this game on my search of looking for free games like Wurm Online. Ive been able to do a few things and stuff, train a few skills ext...but where are all the other players? The games starting to get really boring..cause there should at least be some sort of chat..other than little message bubbles...just wondering if theres any kind of town/place with ppl...since i havent seen 1 person in the hours ive been playing....was just lucky to find some trees...

Personally i'm waiting for a map reset; it'll remove alot of the "barren wasteland" feel.

Welcome to the game. A few advisories for new players:
-The world will be reset in the next few weeks. You will keep any items you may have, but everything else will be gone. We will get an awesome new map out of it, though.
-Read the "How do I" forum and the Wiki, which is still slowly growing. You get one free stupid post before the old guard trolls you alive.
-Don't cut down trees. Just don't. Feel free to take branches, but until you are re-planting them (as they currently don't respawn unless manually planted), don't chop any down.
-Don't eat bread or beef except in sparing amounts. Cook all meat you eat. This game has a bizarre "food event points" system that can cripple a poorly-fed character. The best food for newbs is apples which have no effect other than feeding you.
-Be very, very careful when you approach towns (see the map in the Public Resources thread in the RoB section for a list of them). Most towns have had bad experiences with griefers and will give you one shot at not getting shot.
-The game is Alpha, and will crash, glitch, and explode randomly like nothing else. You WILL lose valuable things and might do so regularly.
-There is a strong contingent of griefers who enjoy nothing more than annoying other players. The developers (Jorb and Loftar) will not ban them. Learn to live with swastikas being carved into your lawn every night.
-And um, have fun.

There is some kind of game-wide chat in the game, and also an IRC channel out of game. Hopefully someone else will post how to access them. There are also methods in game for sending messages to players with whom you are "kin", or who are currently in the same "party" as you. Be aware that both of these relationships have the potential to give others access to stuff that would otherwise be private.

It was undecided the last I heard. They aren't necessarily going to do a total equipment reset. It's fair to say that's possible, though.
