Minecraft Documentary

Postby Lahrmid » Tue Feb 22, 2011 2:50 pm

I don't really play Minecraft anymore (partly due to the silly modding and THE ABSOLUTELY SHITTY COMMUNITY) but I thought that this was worth sharing.

Story and 6 minute preview

2 Player Productions wrote:Over the past year, the computer game Minecraft has become a cultural phenomenon, drawing millions of players into the unique, low-res world created solely by Swedish programmer Markus "Notch" Persson. When Persson announced that he would invest his Minecraft earnings in founding his own development house, Mojang Specifications, 2 Player Productions seized upon the rare opportunity to fly to Sweden and document the first week in the life of the new studio.

What's wrong with the community? Been waiting for Minecraft to become more of a game so didn't bother checking them out yet.

Try reading the forums... It's a terrible place. There's a bunch of Notch-worshiping children that will rip your face off if you don't worship him daily.

It was great before, back when there was just InDev and Creative, but then the shit hit the fan and the masses heard about Minecraft and started crowding.

So, kind of like the Dwarf Fortress boards.

It would be a great change of pace if the forums for a video game was populated by people who hated every fiber of the game creator(s) and whined about every change.

Oh wait.

Not familar with the MC boards but if they are just half as bad as the DF ones then I dare not look. These H&H boards are far from perfect but are atleast free of that sycophantic worship.

As for MC itself, it always seemed like too much of a pure 'lego' sandbox, If I wanted to arrange blocks I'd use the real things. I understand some kind of survival gameplay has now evolved but that seems to have taken a darn long time to evolve.

MC community is pretty normal for any gaming community this size.

Besides, it's not like you have to read forums to play Minecraft, and modding is not mandatory.
