Do I speak for us all?

Postby Shuffletrin » Thu Mar 17, 2011 4:29 am

Hello, my name is Shuffletrin. A humble player since late World 3.

When I began playing this game, I had a hard time grasping the entire concept of the game; both my friend MrStretch and I did, I mean. After about a month or so, we built our first home and then the game truly began. Yes, I know, "A month? Gosh, what noobs" , but everyone learns at different paces. The LP system back then was one of the easiest concepts to grasp though: You build/craft/get supplies, you get LP. I liked that, Stretch liked that, and I'm sure a lot of other people liked that as well.
When World 3 ended, I read that World 4 was not going to last long because they were just working out a few bugs and updating the LP system. I thought "Hm, I wonder what improvements they're gonna make to this already great system?" . So, in the mean time, I just lived and built in World 4 until it ended. I didn't know it ended though, I thought something had happened, and then I found out that it was time for World 5 after I read the forums.
Like I said before, the old system was you build/craft/get supplies, you get LP. Now, you need to discover stuff and use "curiosities" to gain LP. Now, after about a year or two of playing this, it got old and I was barely hanging onto my interest in the game as it was, hoping for more updates on items and such, but the items were a tad bit out of reach for me and Stretch, giving us goals. But once world 4 was deleted, he gave up. I go over his house one day and discover that World 5 had come out. I log in to see what changes they made and didn't notice much right away until I decided to allocate my personal beliefs. I notice a revised tab named "Study" and did not know what that was. So I go to the wiki and read up a bit on curiosities such as cone cows. I like that you get LP from discovering stuff in the beginning, since it's a fast process and you get it all at once basically if you live in the right terrain, but as it gets further, it's a bit harder to get the LP you need right then and there. I don't want to wait 30 minutes-24 hours for LP from curiosities when I could easily go out and build a house to get the LP I needed AND be productive to my village.
Sure there are some of you out there who like the new LP system, everyone has opinions, but even I noticed that A LOT of people stopped playing after the LP update. Personally, I think it should go back to the old way. There were LP farmers and loom scripters, yes, but if you lived in the right area they would not bother you, it's a matter of laziness or activeness. I don't know what you all think, but I hope I at least speak for most of us when I say "I want the old LP system back."

Thank you for taking the time to read this, I hope that it gets through to some of the moderators and eventually Jorb or whoever else helps with the updating of the game. I will attempt to keep interest in this game in the hopes that things will pick up.

No, you do not.

(You're not meant to be able to learn every single skill (sans blacks) within hours of starting the game. What most people are complaining about with the new LP system is that it has grossly slowed down the initial CHARACTER progression (which was much needed). It really has no effect on your world progression. You can still learn whatever minor skills you need to start building and producing things within the first couple hours. You don't need LP to pave the ground or build a house. Everyone complaining about "having to wait" for their curiosities to gain LP are hung up on the old system and are playing the game wrong. Doing stuff and gaining LP are 2 separate entities now. No one knows how curiosities will scale closer to the end game, but as of right now they work fine.)

Cobalt, like I said, everyone has opinions and I respect them all.

(I do not hope to learn every skill, I just find it annoying that if I am say... 50 LP away from getting yeomanry and I have been working hard and there is nothing around me to be able to give me the 50 LP I need, I don't want to go out searching for trees that I have murdered that possibly have cones on them and have to wait for 30-60 minutes (I'unno, I haven't counted exactly). Maybe it's just me, maybe you're right, it's going to take some getting used to, but I wish that Jorb would announce the updates BEFORE they happen. He may have done that and I didn't notice, but you would think he would make it more well known so people can post their opinions beforehand.)

What a pretentious rhetorical question. No, you don't speak for us all. Are you really so set in your opinions that you think EVERYONE must agree with you and hate the new LP system? I like it, it deters forests of buckets as well as killing for the sake of LP. It stops people from digging up the soil and ruining the soil q for LP points. It's much less grind oriented and gives an incentive to do things for the sake of their intrinsic value, not just for LP. But I, unlike you, have a sense of perspective. I can see why some people don't like it. Get off your high horse.

Well, I'm not saying that EVERYONE hates it, I mean everyone I know hates it. And it's not my fault people are lazy bastards and don't work for their LP instead going out and wasting trees, yes it saves forests and whatnot, but I have every right to speak my mind.

You surrounded yourself with people who grinded, of course they will not like the new system. I'm not saying grinding is bad or good, but I'm just saying your perspective is just as good as mine, and everyone I know likes the new LP system.

And it's not my fault people are lazy bastards and don't work for their LP instead going out and wasting trees, yes it saves forests and whatnot,

It certainly does save forests. What's your point? How is this a refutation of the new LP system? The new system is designed to prevent something from taking place, just because you weren't the cause of that problem doesn't mean we shouldn't implement it. My country has banned citizens from owning bazookas, even though most people would not abuse the right to own a bazooka and not blow everyone up, a small minority would blow people up. Nevertheless, we need anti-bazooka owning laws in order to prevent bad things from happening, just like this new LP system prevents deforestation.

but I have every right to speak my mind.

Did I ever say you DIDN'T have the right to speak your mind? Because that's what it's implying. Why else would you post that? You have the right to speak your mind, of course you do. Who denied you that? What was the point of this sentence? You're just trying to demonize me because I disagree with you.
