Traps

How many of you have fallen for some weird trap? I know I just fell for a trap. I found a russian settlement that was abandoned (Or I thought it was). I went in it was just a few houses and one of them I got trapped in. When I entered the house there was a hearthfire right in front of the door. I couldn't move! I tried to destroy it but could not. Sadly I had to warp back to my hearth and leave my boat behind...

You can easily get out of that.
Turn sprint on---> Run in a direction (Usually left works for me) but if you can't run that way keep trying or you may be able to run outside.
Edit: Some supposedly noobs wanted inside my wall so they could give me 7 acre clay for a pickaxe (don't know if this was an epic fail trap or they were really noobs)

Someone was trying to get me to open my gates to buy steel from them for a few pumpkin pies. I wasn't that dumb luckily but that was it. I'm sure everyone has some horror stories though.

a favorite tactic of AD is the old bait-and-switch. one guy stands outside your wall, and baits you into going outside. when you get out there, the other 4 were hiding outside of draw distance, and you get jumped.

of course AD didn't invent this, it's the oldest trick in the book

my favorite back in the old days, before everyone had an xray client, was hiding under a rock near someone's gate while they were online. it was simply amazing how many people weren't paying attention as they opened their door

I've already told this story, but it's relevant to the topic, so whatever.

During my travels through World Four, I spotted a chest laying out in the open on the side of a river. Thinking it was odd, but curious about it's contents, I decided to take a look and completely neglected to turn on X-Ray. Sadly, the chest was empty, but I found myself with a bigger problem on my hands than a lack of lost treasures. I was instantly locked in combat by a pair of guys, one of whom hopped in my boat to cut off an easy escape. They said I was going to come with them for a little boat ride, and that they'd kill me if I tried to run away.

A quick glance at my character sheet showed me the folly of spending more on Exploration than on any of the combat stats, especially since they had bronze gear and I only had leather. Considering my options, I shrugged and figured that if they wanted me dead, they would have slaughtered me and stolen my stuff already. I got in the boat that the second one brought out from behind another tree and we proceeded on our merry little way.

The gentleman that was steering told me that I'd be working for them now. A short distance up the river, we came to a palisade wall that would become my new home. He said that there were beautiful dreams inside, along with branches, so he could lock the door and ensure that I couldn't leave. Given that I was still locked in combat with them, I couldn't exactly travel back to my hearth, so I guess he had thought this all through.

What he didn't account for was human error. The other guy left his boat in the water for a moment too long, and I promptly made my escape by hopping into it and rowing for all I was worth.

Good times.

I'm pretty sure that does not qualify as a trap.
