Are new worlds usually this violent?

Postby Chardos » Wed Mar 23, 2011 10:45 am

I honestly never even saw PvP combat in the few months I played in the last world, rarely even saw a skeleton. I lived in the same SG as A.D. for crying out loud, judging from all the forum drama at the time and how often I was out on hunting trips, I should have seen something...but this world on the other hand...

After getting ganked in my old villages storehouse while grabbing a soda (two days pretty much wasted, meh), I decided to play the hermit for awhile. I reincarnated and wandered around for about an hour and found a nice little secluded area to settle down in. Took me about 10 minutes of wandering around to find the 8 skeletons within a 2 minimap radius of my "secluded location"...four of them were in a group...I'm considering just coming back in a month or two to see if things have calmed down and I can live relatively peacefully.

Are new worlds usually this violent in the beginning? If not, why is there so much death?
Is it because everyone's on a level playing field, random people griefing because they can, or was I just hella lucky last world?

I believe it's due to the lack of rangers atm so people are doing whatever the hell they want :-D

More people, less space, same amount of resources. That is all.

It all depends on what SG you are in.

i've collected aroun 10 sckeletons. Probably your place is not so popoulated.
And remember. Most of them in this world kill who is fishing on a boat, so no skeleton no scents òo.

A lot of those skeletons are noob alts who died while the main player was getting his strength up. In our village we have people who have died twice, and several who have died once, simply from being low level and not yet up to dealing with boars, or under the erroneous impression that they could get aurochsen hair without being trampled... This body count is severe enough that I have met a couple of people who started out with a noob alt whom they named something silly, working from the assumption that their first character would not survive starvation, bears and boars, which puts them in a terrible quandary if their primary character does survive long enough to get higher stats than their less fortunate neighbours. "Let's see, it would take me four days play to get back to full tradition... and if I just suicide now I would go down to 16 mm which would be a horrible loss... so maybe I _should_ keep CrapOnMyHead as my main...."

And there are people who collect skeletons or run through alts like potato chips, so a heap of fifteen skeletons, or a camp around which fifteen skeletons are strewn does not imply anything except a morbid taste in decorating, let alone a massacre.

Early worlds do tend to be violent but perhaps not to the pvp extreme you are fearing.

I find a lot of skeletons on grasslands due to the new aurochs item =P

Probably nothing fishy happened.

I've honestly found this world to be a bit more hostile. For the fifth time last night i've had people shoot at me for no apparent reason as if I was on a quest to steal their items. Half the time i'm just rowing around looking for items and game animals. Also, people like follow you around and it's creepy.
