Your thoughts on PvP

Postby Mopstar » Mon Mar 28, 2011 7:29 pm

Well i dont want to shitty up jorbs thread which is an alright read and makes sense (in some ways) but what does the community think?

I love the aspect of every player for themselves, be it a group of players wanting to be the strongest which often leads to the war path or even just the random killings we see(And love hearing about the people whining on the forums  )
Trading for goods is risky for both sides but often leads to new links and allies while always having the feeling that you might be betrayed when you are trying to establish more trade partners.

Thives, vandals as such get hunted down and dealt with often up to the tracker on how the person in question is dealt with.Either a warning or just killed outright. With the new lp system are we being more forgiving when dealing with each other?Since we no longer get the hearthlings lpthere is not much point in killing unless it was a serious enough offence.

The need to eliminate competition should be the only motivator IMO.

You seem to define PvP in a rather narrow way. PvP is more than just combatting other players, reading Jorbs text should make that very clear. So everything you do is or has the potential to be a PvP action. Since it is entirely up to us how to judge those actions we need the freedom we currently have to punish and react to things others do. So taking away that kind of freedom by limiting PvP in the narrow sense you describe it as (a.k.a combat) would lead to more grief and whining than the current system does.

Of course an open system attracts people who want to abuse it, especially since there are no real consequences other than loosing some pixels. So the enviroment tends to be harsher especially on the unprotected. Thus all the complaining from new players. But from this abuse also emerges the need for strong communities to regulate and strengthen the freedom and security (2 terms that usually are in conflict with eachother, but that is a topic for another day) for those hearthlings that want to live in peace.

Terrifyingly enough, you can loot someone's mentory after you kill them like you're in Highlander or something.

PvP is awesomely fun. Perma-death actually makes it exciting and fighting in a group-against-group battle is even better.

That being said, it's way too easy to make a mistake and pay dearly for it. A little lag and you mis-click and move slightly could cost you your entire defense bar and your hearthling's life. Mess up in picking a maneuver or use one for just a little too long and you may have already lost the battle in mere seconds.

I like on the spot strategy and thinking as much as the next guy, but sometimes it just gets a little too tedious.

PvP is fun as hell, and causing chaos is fun too, anyone that disagrees is a lying poopie.

PVP is good. Servers for "Non-PVP" just wouldn't be fun. No real danger for people, just a massive slaughter of bears and boars.
Also, how would you deal with thieves on this sort of thing? Ask them to be nicer next time?

i dont take an active part in combat pvp myself, but Brer Rabbit cannot exist without it.
it is about relativism with some toleration to me, no winners without losers, no peace without dangers, no big powers without mediocre players, no dramas without conflicts, and no analysis without meat.

imo survival game is only fun when survival isnt too easy but not too hard, with real freedom, and having various types of players in it makes the game more vivid.

but to be completely honest, i do feel like playing farmville sometimes ;)(though i dont)

Pvp. Nothing against that.
You need to grind combat skill to make pvp. Mh..ok.
You not grind that skills. You're killed from pvp.
....what?

Choose. I can make pvp or i cant? Let me choose if i wanna be killed or if i wanna RUN.
Afterall if ther's freedom, should there be the freedom to run safely if i don't wanna perma die and i don't like pvp and i wanna be a farmer.
Or not?
They could destroy all what i have, but at last let that only animals and combatant can be MURDERED. Please.
