Forum etiquette question

Postby cloakblade » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:25 pm

These questions are most concerning Critiques & Ideas forums.

1. How long should you wait to bump a thread. 5-7 days? Shorter? longer?

2. Should you bring necro/bump a thread that has the same core concepts and then just add to it or should I make a new one with my own ideas?

3. How long before I should just let a thread just die? Is it always a good idea to necro-bump ideas if you like them rather than make new ones as long as what you wanted to state is stated in the original?

Thanks for any answer, I know it may not be cut and dry but suggestions would be nice.

1. should be fine, although its better to add content

2. as long as it isn't outdated/offtopic and you have some content to add, necroing threads that are essentially the same idea is preferred; otherwise provide links to previous discussion in your OP. if your idea is related but not really the same, add links in OP so you dont have people crying about Search

3. you shouldnt ever have to duplicate threads. modify the OP, if thread is being derailed request it be moderated using the Report button

zero content bumping of idea threads is generally frowned upon, the only threads that's really ok for is bugs.
