Items for passerbys

Does anyone else do this? I just put two baskets and a jug of water out for anyone passing by.

We give anyone that comes within view of our walls an arrow to the throat. Just kidding. We shoot them in the groin.

It is not my intent to give my items away, but it is the result nonetheless ;)

I used to build a guesthouse on the outskirts of my claim (close to the nearest river) and stock the cupboards with various excess items I had (I was a rather active hermit with no trading partners). Crops of every variety, meats, clothing, slings, hats. Back when producing items gave LP I'd have a dearth of excess items and it was fun to help people out.

However usually what happens is that some greedy person comes along and takes your entire inventory full hours after you filled it and it gets a little discouraged. I even used to keep a sturdy bed in there but people kept running off with it haha.

I leave simple supplies next to barter stand that players can use to gather the goods I want.

In the last world my village was making a "rest stop" by our crossroads, a timber house with beds, simple food and supplies, and some barrels of low q beer and tankards. Didn't ever see it finished though. We also had 6-8 (I forget) kilns by the river, which happened to be at a Q30~ river clay spot for anyone to use.

I usually plant a bad quality pumpkin outside my doors and claim for people to gather if needed.
