Claim an abandoned village...Worth it?

My last character recently died due to some very hostile villages near by so I figured mine as well just move to a completely different part of the world since it'll likely happen again. Long story short I found an abandoned village with 2 very large caves that have been mined a little bit as well as palisades that had decayed to the point where the're was no gate but still mostly remained intact.

The problem is there are 2 very close villages near by and could have been the cause for this village's destruction, but on the other hand it's very possible that it was a inside source that destroyed the village because there are hearth fires randomly placed in one spot of the claim. There are 2 bodies I've found, and crap load of rune stones that are in Russian and a few in broken English. I know that one of the caves that is actually in the palisade has a 2nd entrance which could have been cause of the destruction. (nothing I can't block off for safety however) Overall it's a nice place but I just don't know if it's safe enough to even try to build up there, maybe the last owners where just dumb? So what does everyone think, worth it?

Also I haven't found it on the map yet, but it has a long 1 tile wide river near by that is labeled as "the Panama Canal" by runestone. So maybe someone has been around there, or is in one of those villages and could give me coordinates.

If there's a 1 tile wide river then it's on the edge of a supergrid. If you know how to look for those on the map then that might speed it up a bit.

Something I should be aware of? I assume you either mean the Russian village to the north of me (As I haven't talked to anyone there) or the vault that everyone posted about before that is rather close.

Eh.
Been here, done this. Depending on if you're taking over a village claim or not, this could really just become a monster of a headache rather than a score. I'd say, fix the palisade, gate it, alt the key, and get to know the neighbors with noob alts before you settle in to stay. Fuck a bunch of flying blind, man. Information is god in H&H.

Make sure the caverns haven't been mined into, if so, not much point unless you pally them off.
