Sword damage discussion

Postby Saphireking65 » Fri May 13, 2011 7:08 am

After an intense battle of me running back and forth on the shore, wielding a q31 soldier's sword, I valorously struck a bear. Theory suggests I would deal enough damage to kill it in a single blow, but alas, I did not. So, here we shall discuss and resolve the question that has been plaguing the minds of hearthlings all over the world: How the hell is sword damage calculated?

Here are the statistics of my attack: 101 Str, 100 Melee, q31 Soldiers Sword. Bear had 0 defense and I had 5 advantage. I ended up dealing exactly 722 damage.

400 base dmg
Damage: Base Damage of Sword * sqrt( sqrt(q * str) / 10)

400*sqrt(sqrt(31*101)/10)
400*2.365~ = 946

you're probably full peaceful (-20%) = 756
bear probably had a few defense when you hit

On this note does Martial only increase damage or does effect the weight of attacks and maneuvers too?

In this scenario it is the difference between 756 damage and 1135 damage. If a third more damage is not compelling to you in any way, shape or form, then I hope you enjoy earning 360% lp instead of 240%.

Unless you were able to break his defense and within the next second or two hit him with your valor strike, it is likely he recovered a small amount of defense just from the natural regrowth rate. Not that it isn't possible if you've got some ants nearby feeding your combat meditation -- just unlikely.
