Death of Freedom: Another 'I Quit' Story

Postby Vigilance » Fri May 20, 2011 6:38 pm

this game has always held a deep place in my heart. i started playing at a bad time in my life, something had happened which had put me down in the dumps. with a new source of free time and nothing else to do to my life, i decided that this was the one game i would get good at. and so i tried. tried. tried. and tried again. never giving up.

because i suck at being deep and from the heart, i'll just sum up all my characters' lives in a single post.

Minstrel 1: The Life of a Cruel 'Bandit'
This character was one of my favorites to play. I scraped along just doing what i had to in order to survive, moving from village to village. At first I had no black skills, but i eventually moved in to the old hallowed shell of a 'Red October Village' and immediately bought rage. I had a group following me around back at ROV, we scraped along the very bottom, managing to do nothing but farm our wheat. eventually, we were griefed and sealed in to our wall. A damn shame. Eventually a wall had fallen down, so I did what I did best and ran out to loot towns. Eventually, I looted the wrong one and brought one angry ranger at my village. He offered us all seats in his village because he realized we were a group he could use. Farmers, one of us trying to do combat, and we took him up on this. From there, I did nothing but roam the hearthlands looking for people to kill, even if I had no idea what most of the moves did (I actually ran around with combat meditation on when I was fighting...) I still got 10 or more kills, one of which was oddity when he was starting out. Eventually, my lifestyle caused a lot of in-fighting which lead to my death. After a long while of butthurt, I gathered what was left and started again to help my friends.

Minstrel 2: A Character So Boring
this character hardly did anything but symbolize my love of mining. all I'd do was sit there all day in a chair outside of my dimly lit camp (no nightvision ;) ) watching my smelters, crucibles, and all the like burn. it was a pleasurable time, but all pleasure is brought to an end. I died, shortly after.

My next few characters were so meager and insignificant that I can't even remember them.

Toska Slabyh (W3)
This was my favorite character, because it was my BEST (well, second-best... see: freedom :) ) character. I had finally woken up from my nably 'I will run around and try to be a badass' ideas and learned what true H&H work is. I was in a village, Emberwood, lovely place, surrounded by other villagers who I enjoyed chatting with. The atmosphere of the village was enlightening, the chieftain was very nice, and the lawspeaker was such a nut you just couldn't -NOT- love him.

I had another problem, a player named Ravian. I'd try and try to be friendly, from time to time but it would be hard because he just doesn't want any of it. He'll shove you away again and again, or that was my case. To this very day I still can't get along with him... Toska Slabyh, though, all-in-all survived until the very end of the world. Because of paranoia and knowing what was good for me, I managed to see plenty of fun. 8-)

Hans-Gehrder (W4)
This was basically poking at W4. Upset with the wipe it was hard to play. This was the character I had when I was with NaoWhut and his group in early w4, too. ;) Nothing significant happened really though, a couple raids here and there, us getting raided by odditown (PUSSIES RAN AWAY WHEN WE EXPECTED BLOOOOOOOOOOOOD  ) and all that.

Toska Slabyh (W4)
Oh geez, my favorite. This was probably my best-but-not-good-statistically characters. I spawned near the 420chan spawn, became friends with them, eventually went back to Narnia, but still had friends back there. On my travels I came across Quahog. Love those guys :P Nothing happened on this character except for a few kills, many pantsings, and then my eventual death from pounding on painhertz's newbie villagers.

Freedom (W5)
Everything was going so good. I started good. All sorts of shit happened. Met Jorb. Went from village to village. Eventually started my own village in the northeast. I had everything I could dream for, and I became even better than Toska Slabyh (w3) at one point. Somehow, I ended up getting killed at an allied village (Iron Curtain) in my sleep. Don't know anything about it, really, but I died at a damn fine time.

I've done everything there is to be done. I've crafted almost everything and owned nearly everything i've ever wanted. I had completed all of my goals minus one harder to accomplish one.

To my allies, I'll miss you guys. You couldn't have made me happier.

Vercia: Dolendo, you smelly mailman, better get the boys gold. I'll be watching.
Iron Curtain: Pretty sure my death was involved with you, but either way, the times I had with you guys were fun. Stay strong.
Emberwood: Try not to get raided again. ;)
Leon: Don't waste those bars of silver. :)
Narfell: Rekal, enjoy your wizcape, even if I just learned last night you guys brought W4 Toska Slabyh to an end!

To everyone else I've encountered on my journeys, keep playing until theres nothing left to play. ;)

If anyones interested in contacting me for whatever reason, your best bet is to pm me for my skype.

Thank you all, it was fun while it lasted. :D
