So I just drowned and have a new character...

I also have zero XP points. I also can't "discover" a lot of the things one usually can with a new character. And I can't craft anything, either.

I caught a ladybug and am studying it, but I have a faster way to gain XP - namely, a claim I can declaim.

My dilemma is this: if I keep my claim, it will take me a long time to build enough XP to do what I used to do - bake, farm, grind tobacco, boil spring stew, make rabbit furs into leather. But I'll get to keep my claim safe from raiders (not that I have much more than a roundpole fence protecting my property).

If I drop my claim I get about 6000 or 7000 points back which will help me learn farming and some other skills so I can do what I need to do. But then... someone else might claim my spot. Or worse... thieves will pilfer my crops and my tools, and I may lose my boat.

Then again, it has been suggested I find somewhere else to live, anyway. I chose my current camp before I knew about the importance of soil quality. My soil's qual level is level 16. My plot's also rather close to the water's edge, making it a potential target for raiders (not that I've seen any).I live to the west of Wallstreet, though so...

I think there are three things I can do at this point:

Should I A) keep my claim and slowly grind my XP with token curiosities until I can bake, farm, and craft again,

b) Sell my claim, use the LP from the claim to advance myself and continue to squat on the land, or

c) Abandon my claim and my camp, take a few humble possessions in a handcart, emigrate to a different part of the world and start fresh?

Starting... now.

Headstone? Do you mean the runestone with my previous character's personality?

No, I did that, but instead of getting XP, I got some of his old traits (skills like exploration got +1, +2, and +3), and FEPs were added to.

Soil quality is only important for growing trees. There is really no downside to farming on bad soil except for the initial boost it gives. Crop quality will rise to the level of soil quality at increased speed but once it is surpassed crops will just gain a +2 q each harvest (at best). If you can get your hands on good seeds in the first place soil quality is therefore irrelevant. Even a really crappy hermit neighbour should be able to give you some seeds that are better than the average q10-30 soil quality by now.

I'd go with option A) or C). If you try to get XP back through curios you should go for things like cone cows and dragonflies. There are a few ones that are easy to gather and give a respectable amount of LP if you can manage to reload them frequently.
I'm still ashamed and embarrassed about my last post. There are many small reasons but no real excuse for what I said in the end. All that remains is regret because I won't be able to make up for it again.

See you in a different game maybe. Hopefully without retardation from my side.

If you are getting about 7000 back from your claim, you may have enough to buy yeomanry again.. which at worst will give you a 5x5 area thats "yours". Until you get your palli/brickwall up use alt vaults to store things you really cant live without. The option to move? Purely a personal decision, if you like the area, stay, if you arent that sure, leave.. soil q as said, is not that important for your crops. Wish you the best of luck next life
Can anybody fly this thing?

Leave the claim. 6000 or 7000 points is nothing.

When you inherit, you have all your old discoveries, you retain a portion of your attributes, and you retain a portion of your trainable skills (exploration, survival, etc). Any purchasable skills you had (hunting, foraging, farming, etc.) should be returned as a percentage of free LP to spend. All of the numbers (including LP reimbursement) is based on the Tradition/Change slider. You should have had SOME LP to spend, though it might not have been much.

And I agree with Kaios. Better to keep the claim and the few things that might be there than for a few thousand LP. If it was a few hundred thousand, then it'd be worth it as you could at least replant a claim and it'd just be smaller.

Common bug.

Most of my friends reincarnated and got 0 lp back, ever since the server hardware issues. I think logging out and logging in helped it, or some shit, I don't know. :?

I logged back in and got Image LP. Haven't rebought Yeomanry, but I have most of my other skills back.

I'm staying put. For now.

But I do plan to leave by cart someday. In the case that I do, what are the most useful things I can make to take with me?

Carts will just slow you down. I prefer to use a boat and the two biggest chests I can get. Use an alt to vault more if you want more than will fit in the two chests. If you can, get a couple of traveler's sacks and merchant robe to increase your inventory space.

What you can take (in no order of importance):

A selection of crop seeds--Use seed bags to store what you can. I like to have 4 of each. (Note that not all seeds will go into seed bags.)
If you have better quality tree seeds, take a couple of each type--mulberry, birch, elm, fir, etc
Any special, hard to acquire equipment such as Necro or merchant robes (hard for you, that is) or quality tools.
Best 6-8, maybe 10, moth eggs if you've been making silk.
If you have access to ore and metal, take enough bars to build the tools you need--meat grinder, cauldron, plow--and a few extra for things like chests.
A few bone glue to get a new palisade started right away. (Ropes are easy to acquire--hemp/flax, foraging, dried hides, silk, wool yarn)
Enough curios to last you a few days to a week.

Leave anything behind that can be quickly replaced such as buckets, fishing gear, etc.

I'm sure others have their own list of what to pack for a move. Alts (or friends) can make moving easier by allowing you to take more or even pack some of your tools along.
