D3 announcement

Apparently in Diablo III you can buy items with in game gold or real world money. Way to give in to the gold famers Blizz.

the just gave into the pay to win pressure. Thy said they are gonna tax the trades.

Diablo 3 was one of my top 3-5 games that I've been looking forward too. Now, I'm not so sure. Makes me kinda sick to my stomach actually. Pay to win takes the fun right out of the game for me. Theres a good chance I might not play now.

it also seems like they are encouraging the chinese gold farming slave labor

Years from now they're going to ask us: where were you when they killed online gaming? We're gonna say: we stood by and watched.

No offline play? Real-world money to purchase in-game items? Usually it's the small things that a game developer fucks up that makes them lose players over time. Blizzard... wow. I don't even know what to say.

lol
No Offline play ->
... because there’d be no way for us to guarantee no cheats were involved, ...

Looks to me there is also no way they can guarantee no cheats were involved in online play either. (unless there only talking stupid/obvious cheats of course.)

... Blizzard seems to be suffering from a GOD complex ...

They could be picking up this idea from Activision. Everyone knows how much of a greedy bastard Bobby Kotick can be.

SOE did the cash auction thing with EQ2 on two servers. Everything seemed to run smoothly there, and the amount of spammers used to be almost nothing compared to the other servers. They even helped a company start up that advertised they were in agreements with other major MMO publishers. (No idea if any of those agreements came through, though. Not kept track of it.)

Still, to do this to a game we all expected to be just like the other two... Well, we know Activision-whoever would really screw with things, so can any of us be surprised?

edit: Also: Can anyone be surprised about the 'no offline play' thing? You already have to have a net connection for most things XBox 360, PS 3, and many of the digital published titles. The problem is there are still so many areas, in the US at least, that have crap internet connections.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
