Living in Caves

Postby Yolan » Sun Sep 20, 2009 4:08 pm

Just a thought,

Why not make it possible to build hearthfires as well as walls and gates (and claims) inside caves? Not to mention whatever other things you might want.

Unlike some, I don't really see giant underground cities fitting in well with this worlds mythos, but hermits and outlaws (not to mention witches and cultists) occupying distant caves makes sense to me.

Well, I think this idea will become less pleasant with the introduction of cave trolls.

I agree, emphatically. The only reason why we haven't made the caves inhabitable yet is because of the terrible things it could do to the tracking of crime scents, which is a problem we haven't managed to solve yet. This might be a good time to mention that mines can be prospected for in caves, though.

why not make it so each cave has a certain I.D.(cave 00000001, cave 00000010, so on), and when a hearth fire is in a mine, that I.D. is applied to it(hearth fire (cave I.D.)). when you're tracking that hearth fire it searches for an I.D., and if it sees one the arrow thing points toward the cave entrance corresponding to the I.D.? Same thing would apply to persons too, but temporarily.

Because there is no obvious way to tie any given location in the cave world to any given cave identity.

sounds useful

having tunnels gives an incentive for actually exploring them, especially if you can use them to dodge rivers or animals
