A simple game we are making

Postby JustasJ » Tue Aug 30, 2011 3:38 pm

I would like a few people to check out and test a simple PHP browser game me and a friend of mine are making: http://geimas.site40.net/

It is supposed to be a multi-player strategy game with a post-apocalyptic setting where players will be tasked to provide themselves with resources to build, fight and ensure their survival.

Current resources include Work Hours, Health, Food, Fuel, Scrap Metal, Medicine, Electronic Components, Engine Parts and Ammunition.

You will automatically get WHs once a day, 4 from just playing, and another 4 from having 10 food and fuel. If you do not have these resources, you will lose health. You can get extra health by using Medicine, and lose it by getting attacked. Most other resources are used mainly for building buildings, such as a current Farm and Fuel Extraction Facility, and ammunition can be used to attack other players or defend from them. WHs are used to work at obtaining resources. The easiest way to get them is scavenging.

Note, that if your health reaches zero you lose all progress and if a player kills you he gets all your resources.

We currently have a working in-game chat and message system seems to work flawlessly. However, we are thinking how to implement a satisfactory faction system along with faction-performed operations, trade, new buildings and differences between regions.

Any criticisms and questions welcome. ;)

Edit: a screenshot.

I'll keep an eye on his developing program.

terrible

making all ur pictures in paint might have been cool if u were even slightly decent at it, but u draw like 5 yr old

im sure i dont need to point out how shit ur website is but i must ask why the hell do u even ask for email address, theres no verification and i cant imagine anyone putting their real email because the website consists of nothing but a couple of text boxes asking for ur email at this point which is obviously dodgy and smells like spam mail site.

as for the actual game which im not even sure exists, u have no explaination anywhere or guide and the pages are so messy its not possible to work out what ur supposed to do, therefore ur game is unplayable- assuming anyone even bother to try learn it after such a shit display

k

email really doesn't matter at all...

the graphics are low but i think the function should be first - better graphics can be made later anyways

i found out easy how it is supposed to be played - used all workhours up in a few minutes, scavenged some stuff but not enough to build yet ... :P

so it will be a longterm test ;)

yours
testacc

in short:

Main - seems to be global chat
Map -guess what
Player Actions - this is where you act- scavenge, heal or move to another area and see what you've got on top
Faction Options- this is where you create or join a faction
Buildings - the build Buildings menu
Members - shows members, stats, where and opportunity to attack
Messages - PMs
Settings - is where you can check, change account information and :!: delete account :!:
Tutorial - yeees tutorial 8-)

start:
go Player Actions - on top you see how many working hours you've got - click 10 times on scavenge button and they're gone - you've scavenged different stuff then (see at top row) - you could use to build buildings or to travel to another area if enough...if not you've to wait till you got workhours again...

simple as OP said... :o

This thing defiantly got potential, just keep improving on stuff and a suggestion on the graphics, try to look up some online tutorials on drawing o a computer or practice, I do a bunch of small-scale drawing in paint by pixel you guys should look up vector and try to use another program like gimp its great for vector, paint is better for pixel.

borka: Messages work, but you write them by selecting a certain recipient in the Members section.
The rest of what you have stated appears to be right.

warhamer: I am actually using Gimp to draw my pictures, but I am simply making the current ones as placeholders. Maybe after I see how my gameplay is working on my game, I will change them to something different and less "amateur" than now.

At least it's probably safe from PHP injections. Gz. Haven't tried all combinations though.. just the ones with single brackets and no brackets at all.

I also agree with other comments: You need someone who can actually draw.

looks like one of those things on facebook where you can buy more "actions per day" or whatever with real money, is that where this is headed?

God no. :D We are making this simply to learn how to code and how to manage an ever bigger project, we do not expect to make money from this. Also, we want to make a PHP game that is not a clone of Travian nor Ogame. Right now we are planing to make buildings for every resource in the game, a more interesting combat system, faction-wide operations, ability to manufacture and use guns, vehicles, etc. ;) Basically, we want to start with a simple game and increase it's complexity, and not the other way around, like in "those Facebook games".
