Where is everybody?

For the past four days I've been playing i haven't seen one other person.

Even after traveling the world for hours, and hours (i'm a forager) i haven't seen one person. Theres always 300 people + on so where is everybody?
I know there around because my food stores are always empty when i log in -_-

i've only noticed this late-game. earlier on it was so much easier to find people chilling around outside.
