Higher Player-Base, Good or Bad?

Postby jordancoles » Thu Sep 29, 2011 4:30 pm

There have been a lot more people joining the game since Paulsaursjr (I think I spelled it right) made his video on youtube doing a hnh review. So what do you all think? Is this a good thing that people are noticing our community? Or do you prefer the indie game status and lower player base? I'm not liking the added lag but more players potentially means for more donations for a better server :D

More players = more raid targets

Providing they get far enough to even have a pallisade or higher. My main problem is that all the people joining won't stay long so it's just added lag for us so that people can chop down a few trees and be killed by ants

More player = more lag.

Maibe, after Salem, this game will have his grow of fame but if it happen before jorb and loftar have some more money, i think the server will collapse soon. The amount of new players and the amount of new donations aren't proportional to save the server. XD

Well hopefully with the salem release Jorb and Loftar would have some more money to play around with for things like servers

As someone pointed out in the OTHER thread about this.... The servers are capable of handling 1500+ people online at once, or at least were before some of the changes that were made over the summer. I still seriously doubt the lag is caused by the number online as it's just as bad with 500 as with 300.

Don't forget that more players means more people to trade with.

If J&L can get the time to do it, the world could probably use a small exapnsion it's getting hard to find an area that isn't all claimed over. I've spent my last month playing just wandering the map. The NW corner is the only area I haven't been. Everywhere else is getting pretty congested.

Do you think they'd be able to expand the world without resorting to a W6? I have no problem with a W6 but I'd prefer for it to happen after the Salem release so that it isn't rushed.

Yes, they can do world expansions without restarting the whole map. They did two (at least) during w3. I think they have to take the server down for a day or two, though.

World expansions happen completely transparently and are sometimes not announced, giving the first people to notice that the invisible wall is gone a huge advantage in claiming high ql resources in the new grids. Great stuff!

I check the amount of people online whenever I go on the forums, and haven't really noticed a significant change. Remember, in past worlds there were over 1000 players, though that was at the height of botting, so some % of those were just bots.

I think the biggest change with additions of players is the addition to the community. New factions always make things more interesting. The big test is who can stick it out at least to mid-game. My impression is that about 9/10 players quit before that.
