Bare survival

Postby Kailvin » Thu Oct 13, 2011 9:44 pm

Heres the story. Me and my friends started playing H&H. Good game. Good fun. However the four of us are having some food troubles. we have to hunt 24/7 and even then we do not get enough food. we are slowly starving. After a 30 minute walk we found a broadleaf forest with apples and nuts and it was a bountiful feast. it put us all the way from the verge of death to mid yellow bar. Among the other problems we have been having (A boar killed 2 of us when it decided it liked to sit on our houses front porch for awhile. Learning combat skills is of a higher priority now...) We have the farming skill. but no one can find seeds. (No one has the 6 exploration. Also none of our food is good enough to provide attributes so... we are stuck with hunting) we catch 90% of the rabbits we find. Its not we suck... Maybe there just is not enough food to support all 4 of us playing for 6 hours a day? Also does not help I can not catch rabbits or chickens anymore. (Some bug. I simply can not right click on them anymore. I eat rats almost only now) The wiki can only go so far in teaching us to survive. So I guess what I am asking for is tips on better hunting and stuff that might help us get enough food to survive. It does not help that 90% our ways to walk are blocked by some massive city that seems to just be a giant wall instead of a city. (To keep our location a secret I wont say what city)

You say you can't right click the rabbits..it's probably because you don't have hunting.

But anyways. It's actually fairly hard to starve to death as you have to go through 4 (full, hungry, very hungry, starving) different bars of hunger to actually die and the last 2 take longer. You start losing health at starving though. You should try having one you pick up fishing so you can all eat fish as a fairly consistent source of food. Also, try getting a sling so you can sling boars from a boat.

Oh. When the boar murdered me I must of forgot to re-take hunting. Thanks. However we are kinda slowly dieing of hunger. we havent seen the green bar since the start of the game. We are all in Very Hungry bar. (About 75% of that left) Like you said we take damage when starving so we try our best to keep above that but its hard...

search for apple trees or mulberries, random unclaimed farms, there are lots of ways to fight starvation and it's usually not as hard as it seems
Oh boy, here I go cheesemaking again...

If you read the wiki, you'd know to catch a rabbit that you need Hunting. As for boars, don't fight them. You'd need a good 30ish UA or MC to combat them. Depending on your gear. Unless you punched them while they were running, but in order to do that you'd need to make them flee using a sling. The beginning of the game is the toughest part. Your best bet, is to stop worrying about animals. Start fishing.

Keep upping Exploration. Every chance you get it helps. Plus foraging and the herb skill. Ya I play about 8+ hours a day and well I spent 90% of the time looking for food. Then I found some seeds lol.

Build a boat, make a fishing pole, and start fishing nonstop (also it is best to use bait instead of the lures) and also make curiosities non stop even if they suck just study them.

Don't run through forest, it makes you really hungry.

Well running in general does that. Your hunger drops as your stamina refills.. So if you run around and burn stamina, of course your hunger will drop. :x
