Ideal plot size for a city?

Postby Thijssnl » Wed Oct 26, 2011 8:46 pm

Well, the title really states the main question, how big should a personal plot be for a city?(and roads etc?) I intend to harbour around 20-30 people in my W6 city. Ive built/co-built several, but never knew if it was the best way.

Sodom in W3 had 33x33 I believe, and 38x38 in Pandemonium, others have gone as high as 45x45.
Just to give you a rough idea.

I had 23x23 in w4.
Seemed okay and had no problems with it.

Well without extensive planning 23x23 would hardly be enough to grow the needed crops, raise cattle, and have room for stone mansions for storage.
As well as keeping enough room to freely walk around.

Meh.. i also didn't have upto 20+ people in the village, we had 2 guys farming the cows and had seperate crops.
Seemed enough, though didn't have any mansions, only timber houses.

I'm making mine 18x18, but everyone will likely have 2 so it is more like 25x25 or 18x36 whatever is easier for you to understand.

Sodom had 35x35 plots with 8 tile roads and 13 tile main roads.

I think that 33x33-38x38 is ideal for plot size. Road size should be a minimum of 4 tiles. You can make do with 2-tile wall patrol.

Sodom roads were good for walking around in but consumed a lot of space, so it has a lot lower space efficiency. Pandemonium for example had weird and wide roads and was 45 plots. A village of the same size with the similar size plots can be roughly the same size of Pandemonium but with 72+ plots... Example of very inefficient system.

Roads are aesthetic and lower efficiency.

Sodom plots were 35x35
Pandemonium Plots were 42x42.

I think panda plots were the perfect size.
