First encounter with the harsh reality known as

PVP.

Me and my group never had a problem with people interfering with our stuff/attacking us or anything like that in W5.
We made the oh so smart Idea of making our camp where 3 rivers cross. That's six directions a boater could come from and see us. Oh we are s smart.

We've had people kiting bears and boars through our land, and we lost a lot of our clay (which we have to go on expeditions for), kilns, oven, and drying frames full of bear and boar skins.
We're moving to a place near a well but far from any river, and I'm putting up palisades immediately. We lost a good hearthling already.

I should be upset, or something. But I'm just determined and having huge amounts of fun adapting. Ranging here I come.

It was claimed, they just lured the bear through our land by quickly boating from one side of our peninsula to the other. Our new settlement is going great though. Palisade is already started.
And I guess I should be totally clear, the bear destroyed the stuff.

Better idea, live about a minimap at a minimum off of the river. DON'T build a road to the river, either. It's takes two or three minutes, maybe a bit more, to walk a minimap carrying a boat. It's annoying, but you won't have people screwing with you all day. Also, the first villages to get raided are usually the ones right on top of a river.

Magic is right, we're about a minimap or two off of the river. Closer you are, the more attention you get. IRL, attention may be good.. H&H? No. Not at all.
My son, walk not in the way unarmed; because thou knowest not when thy enemy shall come upon thee.

Sounds like a good attitude. As the people above said, there is safety through obscurity.

We've had people threaten us and such, and it's unlikely that an accidental aggro'd bear would do a full circle around our house and wreck EVERYTHING

But yeah, we're a good distance from the river now, at least 2 default minimaps from it. there's a swamp between us and the river too, so that adds a tad bit of protection. I need to inform my friends not to make a road to the river, which will be very tempting for them. Things are going a lot better in this new place though.

Good attitude to have and I'm glad you're willing to pick yourself up after losing things. It's harsh after losing your infrastructure.

I actually find the process of building up, getting things going, that tickle of fear something is going to walk up to your construction site and kick the hell out of you... It's just really really fun. Death being a huge penalty is so much better than "Oh hey, you died, here's a pat on the back and a shove in the right direction".
