just wondering

This goes back to world 3, has nothing to do with curios, LP or any skill for that matter, it has to do with world size. Last I saw on world 3 it was either 8X8 SG's or 9X9 with about 380 players at peak times.

Now I see the world at 5X5 supergrids with over 1K players at peak times. that's like 40 players every supergrid, compared to like 3.7 for world 3. There was still lots of fights and battles. trading still happened, but you could still find that little corner of the world to call your own and, for the most part, be left alone in peace. Raids still happened, thieves and murderers were still caught and punished, even over great distances.

Now with world 6 out, I was thinking to start playing again and go exploring. Played for about 3 days and found that anything worthwhile already had a personal claim on it. I searched over 8 SG's for something to claim, and found anything worth it already was claimed. Kinda seems a little overcrowded for the amount of people playing now compared to the amount of SG's available to explore.

Anyone know if there is some sensible reasoning behind this, or is just down to a bandwidth thing for the server. I would love to go exploring again, but running into a village ever 1/8th of a SG kinda makes exploring a mute point. Finding something new was always a highlight. But that's gone for the most part.

W3 was expanded later on. Doubt it will happen to W6 though.

They made and kept w5 that small because many people suggested trying the effects of a much smaller world. It was probably a bit too small, but w3 was definitely too big.

A small world has more incentive for conflict and drama which is good for the game. At the same time probably a bit too harsh on new players though.

And what was size of W4? 5x5? Not sure if it was expanded or anything.
I think small map is not only problem for noobs, but also for hermits. They are not necessarily noobs, maybe they just like to play alone. On small map hermits can build bricks wall, even double, but still they will have to be much more cautios outside. Got caught in sight range of group of aggressive player? Quite a chance to die. Not sure what the perfect balance in the size of the map would be.

This is very much the case it seems. Aggression and conflict are good but not when they actively detriment players from joining into the game and performing basic actions such as foraging or starting your land. 5x5 felt cramped in w5 but not in w4 even though the number of active players seems to be the same? I think the issue became the amount of claimed but inactive land developed over time. So while 5x5 initially was enough and probably will be for w6 for three or four months, the game needs to expand to accommodate individuals and groups that are incapable of fighting large, lengthy battles for territory such as newbies. I don't think it's anyone's ideal for the game to shut players out after a year or two have passed by making the environment too hostile to enter into.

w3 was much too spacious at 9x9 (I think) to the point where if you didn't have walls you would still likely never be robbed on dint of no one knowing where in the world you were. That was peaceful to the point of it being painful. Also, for a good portion of w3 we didn't have the World Map so navigating beyond what you had explored was exceptionally difficult and time consuming.

i think claimed areas by players who are inactive for a certain number of days or weeks should jsut dissolve

in world 5 we had a huge acre node claimed enxt to us, too big to really destroy with a village idol over it, we didnt use black skills so couldnt touch it, but no one was using it. it was claimed by a village who were closeby who had been raided and killed and they all quit after, yet the claimw as there all through world 5. jsut seemed like a waste, and by end of world 5 u knew half the pclaims over certaina reas where villages had been abandoned were probably inactive players

but yeah world 6 is seriously crowded. day 1 i swear i met at least 25 ppl in the little spot we spawned at. and sicne then i will see on a daily basis at least 5-6 ppl coming by our village or while out foraging. whereas in world 5 it was rare to see anyone when outside

Don't worry. With this small world we'll kill most of each other off soon and then it'll all be hunky-dory :D

Nobody has bothered mentioning that in many areas of w3, anyone leaving a scent would be hunted down and killed in short order just for the LP the kill was worth? The fact that there was no such thing as a Hearth Vault and people could bash in through brick walls had absolutely nothing to do with it?

I realize that if a world gets too big, the travel time to raid another village becomes prohibitive. The flip side to that is, hey, it took armies weeks to march on their neighbors. Quit complaining about a few hours. Besides, seems like I recall a couple of villages having quite the network of outposts out to all corners of the map. If you're set up like that, I wouldn't think it'd be too hard to make it a giant teleport network (travel weariness requirements not figured in there).

Even if they did expand the world do you really expect you'll find a good resource or a nice, quiet spot when really it takes about a day to setup a lawspeaking alt?

I doubt the world will be extended. We don't really need it. Maybe in the future, but on a much smaller scale than W3's extentions.
