So, for reasons that do not need exploring at this time, I was standing outside a palisade, carrying the key. And some words appeared in the area chat:
???: Hi
Me: hello
???: from?
Me: england. you?
??? Poland
and then I lagged out, which is hardly a novel experience for me, but somewhat rude when engaged in conversation, so I logged back in with all possible speed. It was not a particularly nice feeling when, on being faced with a black 'Loading...' screen I heard a metallic zinging sort of noise, as if a sword was being wielded in the vicinity, and eventually discovered myself in combat with some guy in a bear cape. (Now that I think about it, I wasn't in combat when I lagged out, and I'm pretty sure I didn't get the option to log back in at my hearth fire, so presumably I spent some time involuntarily afk there, and that's when Mr ??? started waving the sword around. This is really Not A Good Thing. I totally accept the risk of being murdered if I'm standing right there, but it seems to me that if I can't see me then nobody else should be able to either). A combination of lag and my lack of combat skills left me trying and failing to do much of anything, so I said 'kurwa', that being the most appropriate piece of my minimal Polish, and failed to even punch him before the guy finally managed to knock me out and steal my key and one decent curio.
As I didn't really have anything to lose, when I came round I didn't log out, but stood outside my palisade and talked while the guy went round looking through my stuff and stealing my leather. The bit I'd like a translation of is
???: tez bylem poczatkujacy to tez mi tak zrobili nie raz = I have no idea at all
???: zabil bym cie ale powiedziales kurwa = [zabijać = to kill] ? ? but [powiedzieć = to say] kurwa
- does that second line translate something like 'I was going to kill you but you said [a word in Polish]'?
Then he gave me my key back and I said thanks (is there any way to use special characters in chat? my spelling is bad enough even when I have access to the whole alphabet, so I'd like to be able to use ę etc when they belong). And then he warned me about a murderer in the area (!) and left, apparently on the trail of said murderer.
