Help making a top ten

Postby Lusewing » Fri Jan 13, 2012 4:26 pm

Making videos is something of a hobby of mine and I plan on making a few for H&H; not a lets play though, H&H is not really suited for that.

The first video will be a top ten mistakes that new players make and while I have most of them down I would like feedback from the community if i have missed something or things should be swapped around. The list will not only point these mistakes out but also show they can be avoided.

1. Using the original client - lets face it we all did it to start and many new players are still doing it, and it really is the worst mistake anyone can make.
2. Thinking that they matter - That they will ever get to be one of the top players or that people will miss them when they rage quite and post about it on the forums.
3. Building next to a river
4.Trying to fight ant/fox/boar/bear/player before being ready - They get a few points and combat skills and now they think they can take on the world.
5. Not trusting people
6. Trusting people
7. Believing they are safe at any time
8. AFKing
9. Chasing rabbits/chickens - What should be an easy meal turns into a chase around the world. An easy mistake to make and one that is quick to fix.
10. Not reading the Forums/Wiki - would be higher on the list but people who think they can start playing a game without a little background reading are doomed to fail from the start so its not really a mistake and more just stupidity.

3. Building next to a river can be safe actually. It depends on how it's done.
4. You will never be ready to fight any of these if you never give it a try. Skills come with experience, and experience come with fails.
10. I started playing without reading. Made my own experience, then i did go to forums and wiki for extra information. And I think I did not bad this way.

I'd add :

- Not having alts. When your main die, and don't have any advanced char to replace it efficiently, you fuck up the quality of your stuff, and lose lot of time.
- Thinking you are safe. You are never safe. Even if you have 3 brickwall layers in a lvl5 cave you are not. Any mistake can fuck up your entire village.
- Trusting people. You'd like to start this game with people you already know. Someone could simply fake to join your village, take everything, and leave, leaving a few corpse behind him.
- Play HnH as if you were playing farmville. There is no place for kindness in there. If you want good quality stuff you'll have to kill some people and steal. Good quality spots are already owned. And if you own one yourself you'll get raided and stolen. Fight for having good stuff, or die trying.

It's actually incredibly fun to play without knowing wtf is going on. First week of playing was some of the most fun i've had playing a video game. Gotta be persistant though, i died like 5 times in that first week =s

Not sealing palisades.
Not blocking cave entrances.
Easy hs.
Scents while hf is outdoors.
Thinking no hf = no summoning.
Telling people about good q resources.
Not paying attention to forum drama or what is happening to your neighbors.

Not claiming a gate. If you wall off a cave with a gate that you will be using, claim that immediately or prepare to leave scents that can be tracked back to your homestead.
