SOPA & PIPA

Postby byrdiebop » Wed Jan 18, 2012 8:08 pm

Is Haven&Hearth under threat from the bills currently being negotiated in congress? I know this game isn't origanted from the U.S. ( at least I think so ), but many other countries would also be affected by it.

http://sopablackout.org/learnmore/

If it is passed it is said that many sites like Youtube, Twitter and others would cease to exist.
I searched announcements for this but did not find anything.
Have you guys heard of this yet?
One of my other favorite games website, Project Zomboid, is currently down in protest against it. Or IndieStone sites are. This game was also made in Europe.
I do not know too much information on the PIPA and SOPA bills or too much on how it affects foreign websites to the U.S. but maybe some other's can read up on this and post about is here as I'am currently busy and ran across this when I was checking for any update news on ProjectZomboid.com, and just simply listened to the video in the link above.
As far as I know the bills will ruin internet freedom and major public websites.
If anyone has the time to read up on this and post info here and maybe find out if it will affect H&H, let us all know.
Sorry if anything is incorrect in this post. I'am currently in a rush, helping my mother and training for the Navy.

There is a zero percent chance those bills ever become a reality.*

Politicians want to be re-elected and any senator, congressman or president that allowed that bill to become law would never work in public service in Washington or Smalltown, USA ever again.

*Edit: At least in their current forms

I'd say they're more worried about appeasing the entertainment industry than the minority of US citizens who actively oppose SOPA. If they actually did care, the vast majority of congress wouldn't be in favor of the bill.

I would hardly call it a minority.
I think it's made of bubbles and hate.

Considering that you have Facebook, Twitter, Google, Yahoo, Wikipedia, etc (the list is quite large), openly stating they are against it, that is quite a lot of leverage and quite a lot of loss businesses even not taking into account of the possible consequences of loss of business from the results.

Overturned by who? The SCOTUS? The people who, just today, decided that Congress can re-copyright works that were once in the public domain?
